Located in the vibrant University City of Cambridge, Springbank Ward at Fulbourn Hospital provides exceptional career development opportunities in the recovery focused care of adults experiencing difficulties associated with a diagnosis of Borderline Personality Disorder.
We are currently looking to recruit an experienced, enthusiastic, and motivated band 7 Occupational Therapist to join our Springbank team, to provide an innovative and forward-thinking service as we continue to develop and improve our unique Personality Disorder Service.
Springbank is a 12-bed treatment and recovery focused ward within the Fulbourn Adult Acute In-patient service. With an admission pathway of up to 12 months, we aim to provide a therapeutic environment offering planned care and treatment focusing on Psychosocial Interventions, DBT skills, and individual Recovery Plans.
Main duties of the job
With a disorder often arising from psychosocial adversity we focus on proactive, targeted interventions focused on supporting individuals to build a meaningful life through engagement in work or other meaningful activity, through established links with the Cambridge Recovery College.
The focus during the stay on the ward is on-going assessment, treatment, care, and recovery, enabling service users to attain a position in which they feel safe and able to take on the challenges that exist for them in the community.

We are seeking to recruit a caring and compassionate Occupational Therapist to provide high-quality care to our patients on Springbank and in return, we will provide you with excellent personal and career development opportunities. As an Occupational Therapist, you will deliver specialist occupational therapy assessments and interventions including supporting access to vocational rehabilitation, occupation focused group work, sensory strategies, reablement work, functional assessments and vocation focussed intervention.
Working within the acute care services at Springbank will give post holders the opportunity to practice a full range of core mental health skills focusing specifically on discharge planning, community liaison and support for service users and carers during the discharge planning process.

- To provide operational management for in-reach occupational therapy service.
- To provide specialist advice and operational support (including recruitment) around the development of the ward based occupational therapy roles.
- To apply an expert level of understanding of occupation to the development of the ward based occupational therapy roles.
- To promote meaningful occupation within all aspects of ward routine and service delivery to support recovery, resilience & self management.
- To take an active role in the development of a refreshed occupational therapy pathway within in-patient areas, harnessing new ways of working for occupational therapists.
- To provide professional leadership for the in-reach & ward based occupational therapy services, ensuring that high quality practice is delivered that produces meaningful and demonstrable outcomes, based on best evidence.

- Committed to engaging in and taking further training and development as identified.
- To be able to travel and transport patients within different local areas.
Education/Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Current HCPC professional registration
- Documented evidence of own continuing professional development.
- Degree or equivalent, e.g. BSc, MSc or Diploma entry level qualification into the OT profession.
Desirable criteria
- Member of the Royal College of Occupational Therapists (RCOT).
- Practice Educator qualification
- Evidence of attendance to relevant and advanced training courses (master’s level or equivalent).
Experience
Essential criteria
- Relevant post graduate clinical experience in relevant settings.
- Experience of working with adults with a personality disorder.
- Experience of occupational therapy assessment and intervention relevant to adults with personality disorders.
- Experience and commitment to the principles of multi-disciplinary and inter-agency working..
- Experience of facilitating a range of group and 1:1 intervention to the needs of the client group.
- Experience of managing/dealing with conflict and distressing situations.
- Experience in providing clinical and operational supervision
Desirable criteria
- Working with a range of statutory and non-statutory services.
- Liaison and support work with carers and families.
- Experience of delivering teaching and training sessions for staff and professionals on specialist subject areas relevant to care group.
Knowledge & Skills
