Job overview
The post holder will be part of the medical monitoring team and will work in collaboration with other members of the Adult ADHD Service as part of the team providing assessment and outpatient treatment for patients aged 18 and over with ADHD.
This post primarily involves annual medical reviews, including monitoring risk, and medical monitoring which is within the scope of a primary care medical practitioner. Providing ‘Advice and guidance’ to GPs will also be part of the role. Specialist experience of ADHD is not essential. With experience the role may evolve to include providing consultancy to staff in primary care and mental health services; teaching and training; and contributing to service audit/evaluation.
The post holder will be required to work within the framework of the Service’s policies and procedures and to supervise and support the work of less qualified team members and trainees.
The post-holder will ensure that they are in good medical standing for CPD, that their practice is up-to-date and in line with the GMC’s Good Medical Practice Guidelines and will be able to evidence this for the purposes of annual appraisal.

To provide medical annual reviews for patients referred to the Adult ADHD Service and to provide professional liaison and support to primary care networks in Cambridge and Peterborough regarding these patients when needed.
The post holder will be part of the medical and multidisciplinary team within the Adult ADHD Service. The post holder will be responsible for checking and interpretation of investigations e.g. ECGs and taking any required actions.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Medical Reviews
· To work closely with the other members of the team
· To provide an assessment of ADHD symptoms and physical risk as part of the annual review. This will include arranging and interpreting appropriate investigations (e.g. ECG).
· To contribute to multidisciplinary assessments, care planning, clinical reports and referral to other appropriate agencies/services when needed.
· To provide feedback to patients and appropriate professionals regarding ADHD symptoms and physical health related to ADHD and ADHD medication.
· To provide health education advice for clients following the medical review.
· To provide on-going monitoring of symptoms related to ADHD during the patient’s time in treatment, to liaise with their GP when appropriate.
· To provide reports to patients and relevant professionals when appropriate.
· To provide treatment recommendations for patients reviewed, and prescribe medication related to ADHD as required. The patient’s own GP will be responsible for prescribing ongoing regular medication.
· To refer to appropriate agencies for further medical assessment / treatments as necessary.
JOB PLAN
8 hours x 3 days
It is anticipated that the 6 sessions will include direct patient reviews, liaison/support of GPs and MDT staff and attendance at team meetings as deemed necessary by the service. Days and times will be mutually agreed in line with service requirements. A final job plan will be negotiated with the post holder, with consideration of the post holder’s interests as well as service needs.
Clinical Governance
- The post-holder will be aware of, and act within, locally and nationally agreed protocols and will be actively involved in clinical governance within the service.
- The post-holder will ensure any issues of concern are appropriately escalated and that any incidents are appropriately reported

Education/Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Full GMC registration and license to practice
- Entry on GP Specialist Register
Desirable criteria
- Additional training in ADHD such as UKAAN qualification or RCGP GPwER or similar * (candidates without this training will be supported to complete this if successfully appointed to the post and dependent on availability of courses)
- Entry on NHS primary medical performers list
Experience
Essential criteria
- Current or recent Experience in the assessment and management of patients in NHS general practice
Desirable criteria
- Experience of managing patients with ADHD
Skills/Knowledge/Ability
Essential criteria
- Ability to demonstrate an understanding of the context of the service within the wider landscape of the current NHS.
- Candidates need to be effective teachers and trainers and also be able to guide their own Continued Professional Development.
Desirable criteria
- Familiar in use of System one
