Job overview

We are looking for a senior experienced technician to lead and develop our pharmacy technician services at CPFT.  

Working as part of the pharmacy senior leadership team, you will be working across the Trust to ensure we deliver safe, high quality and effective care.

Main duties of the job

The main duties of the role include:

Provide leadership and management for the team of technicians within the Trust ensuring a high quality technical pharmacy and medicines optimisation service.

Lead on the management of medicines procurement and administration across the pharmacy team.

Have overall responsibility for the pharmacy technician involvement in the Clozapine service, education and training and the Domiciliary Medicines Management service.

Membership of the pharmacy senior leadership team to ensure an equitable pharmacy service across CPFT.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Lead the technical pharmacy team to ensure the highest standards are achieved and maintained. This will involve:

  • Co-ordinating, planning and developing the provision of patient and service user centred technical pharmacy services across the county.
  • Working closely with the Chief Pharmacist and Pharmacist Team Managers to provide an integrated pharmacy service.
  • Optimising the impact of the technical pharmacy service within the available resources.
  • Anticipating and responding to changing requirements for the technical pharmacy service.
  • The development and implementation of pharmacy policies and standard operating procedures ensuring that all aspects comply with relevant medicines and pharmacy legislation.
  • Take overall responsibility for the management and development of the pharmacy technician involvement in the Clozapine service and the Domiciliary Medicines Management Technician Service.
  • Liaise with the dispensary managers and other Band 6 pharmacy technicians (not line managed directly) to ensure a comprehensive service.
  • Oversight of the Band 6 pharmacy technician clinical lead roles

Education/Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Current GPhC registration
Desirable criteria
  • Accredited checking technician qualification
  • Managerial qualification

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Significant post qualification experience in hospital pharmacy
  • Experience of multidisciplinary team working
Desirable criteria
  • Staff/service management
  • Project or change management
  • Pharmacy standard operating procedure development

Skills & Abilities

Essential criteria
  • Computer literate
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent leadership skills with evidence of being an effective team player

Knowledge and Understanding

Essential criteria
  • Evidence of specialist knowledge relating to technical pharmacy issues and procedures
  • Understanding of medicines procurement
  • Current knowledge of pharmacy and medicines optimisation national and NHS policies
Desirable criteria
  • Understanding of clozapine service
  • Understanding of medicines domiciliary service
