This is a permanent part time (0.5 WTE) Clinical Psychologist post. The post is based at Addenbrooke’s Hospital, one of nine national Mesh Services.  You will be an inspiring and forward-thinking Clinical Psychologist, interested in working at the forefront of Psychological Medicine with a highly psychologically minded medical team, with the potential to develop psychological expertise in the area of pelvic mesh removal. There is also additional time in a urology post if required.

This is a unique post in a developing service with the extremely exciting opportunity to develop your leadership and service development skills.  We welcome applications from Clinical Psychologists with an interest in urology, gynaecology and clinical health psychology.

Whilst the Mesh Outpatient Service is a CUH service, Clinical Psychologists and Assistant Psychologists are employed by Cambridgeshire and Peterborough NHS Foundation Trust (CPFT), to work into the hospital teams. We have over 40 Clinical Psychologists in the Psychological Medicine Service, working across the age range, and linked with a large variety of specialties. Each Psychologists has expertise within medical specialties, and are accredited in a range of therapeutic modalities, these include CBT, CAT, IPT, ACT and CFT and EMDR, so there are many opportunities to develop skills through supervised practice.

There is an increasing focus on the psychological aspects of urology and gynaecology with Clinical Psychology playing a key role in improving patient’s psychological wellbeing, reducing psychopathology with evidence based psychological assessments and interventions, facilitating complex decision-making around treatments, lead to fewer medical interventions, improve quality of life, and reduce demand of medical services and further surgical interventions. The post holder will be the Principal Clinical Psychologist for the Mesh Service. 

They will provide highly specialist psychological assessments, formulations and evidence-based interventions for the Mesh Service, as well as providing expertise in service and pathway development and evaluation.  There would also be the opportunity to contribute at a regional and national level to good clinical practice and the evidence base for this specialist area.  They will also supervise the psychological practitioners working in Urology as well as providing psychological expertise and consultancy to the Mesh Service Multi-disciplinary Team and Urology service. 

The post holder with work closely with the mesh MDT which includes the Reconstructive Urology team composed of 3 Urological Consultants, a Specialist Registrar, and a Nurse Specialist: the Urogynaecology team with 4 Consultant Urogynecologists, a Plastic Surgeon, Consultant Radiologist and a Colorectal Surgeon (and all their respective Nurse Specialists).

To provide highly specialist psychological assessments of clients referred to the service based upon the appropriate use, interpretation and integration of complex data from a variety of sources including psychological and neuropsychological tests, self-report measures, rating scales, direct and indirect structured observations and semi-structured interviews with clients, family members and others involved in the client’s care.

To develop psychological formulations that integrate information from assessments within a coherent framework that draws upon psychological theory and evidence, and which incorporates interpersonal, societal, cultural and biological factors.

To develop and implement plans for the formal psychological treatment and/or management of a client’s psychological problems, based upon an appropriate conceptual framework of the client’s problems, and employing methods based upon evidence of efficacy.

To be responsible for implementing a range of psychological interventions for individuals, carers, families, and groups, within and across teams, adjusting and refining psychological formulations drawing upon different explanatory models.

  • Doctoral level training in Clinical Psychology, including specifically models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics and neuropsychology, two or more distinct therapies and lifespan developmental psychology
  • Registered as Practitioner Psychologist with HCPC
  • Undertaken training in the supervision of Trainee Clinical Psychologists

  • Relevant post-doctoral training
  • Chartered Clinical Psychologist (BPS)
  • Training in clinical health psychology

Experience

  • Significant assessed experience of working as a qualified clinical psychologist at a highly specialist level
  • Experience of working with a wide variety of client groups, across the whole life course and presenting with the full range of clinical severity across the full range of care settings including outpatient, community, primary care, in-patient, and residential care settings severity including maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing problems, verbal abuse, and the threat of physical abuse
  • Experience of exercising full clinical responsibility for clients’ psychological care and treatment, both as a professionally qualified care coordinator and within the context of a multidisciplinary care plan
  • Experience working in a hospital setting
  • Experience working in a multi-disciplinary setting
  • Experience of teaching, training and/or professional and clinical supervision
  • Experience with comprehensive risk assessments and confidence in the appropriate and safe management of risk

  • Experience of working with people experiencing chronic pain
  • Experience of couple work and psychosexual difficulties

Knowledge & Understanding
