Job overview

We are pleased to announce various exciting opportunities to join our dynamic recovery units as a band 6 Sister/Charge Nurse/Clinical Leader. There are opportunities for two permanent posts as well as one fixed term/secondment position which will run until May 2025.

You will be able to work effectively under pressure, have excellent leadership, communication and organizational skills with proven experience and knowledge in the care and management of acute post anaesthetic surgical patients. You will be responsible for providing excellent care to patients and their families within the recovery environment as a clinical specialist in one of the following areas: General recovery/ Obstetric recovery/Neuro recovery. You must be highly motivated, approachable and passionate about recovery care and service improvement, whilst providing calm, effective leadership, with sustainable clinical and leadership skills to act as a catalyst for change and drive compassionate and safe care, whilst working within a multi-professional team. You will be deputising for the Senior Sister and acting as a Clinical Specialist and expert role model within Perioperative Care Services, ensuring safe, effective, research based patient care is delivered.

Main duties of the job

To act as a Clinical Specialist and expert role model within Perioperative Care Services. Promoting excellent team working and ensuring safe, effective, research based patient care.

To deputise for the Band 7 team in their absence across the full range of management responsibilities, including bed management and staff management, sickness reporting., etc.

To assist the Senior Sister with the recruitment, selection and interviewing of staff.

To be responsible for the assessment of care needs, the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care without supervision.

To assist in the setting and implementation of objectives and appraisal of trained staff and learners and to provide a caring working environment in which staff can maximise their potential and develop skills in clinical practice, teaching and management.

To be a facilitator for change and assist in establishing new policies and protocols.

To support other recovery areas in the absence of a band 6.

A welcome subsidy of £1000 is available to all Band 5 and Band 6 Nurses, Midwives, ODPs and Radiographers taking up substantive employment with the Trust.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered Adult Nurse/Operating Department Practitioner
  • Active and current UK NMC/HCPC Registration
  • Practice Assessor/Supervisor qualification
  • Evidence of ongoing/continued professional development
Desirable criteria
  • Course relevant to Recovery
  • Management Studies

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Significant critical care/recovery experience at band 5
  • Evidence of ongoing commitment to the development of the recovery unit
  • Clinical expert in recovery care and willingness to support all recovery units
  • Evidence of leadership skills and study/qualification
Desirable criteria
  • Leadership experience
  • Experience of clinical teaching in a critical care environment

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Capable of working as an integral member of the multidisciplinary team
  • Appreciation of current issues in nursing & involvement in specific interests
  • Good communication skills between the multi-disciplinary team/wider perioperative services both written and verbal
  • Ability to prioritise workload
Desirable criteria
  • Professional development in Recovery/Critical Care/Acute Care
