An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Security Department in Facilities Services.  The post holder will be responsible for overseeing operational security service; under the direction of the Head of Security, by ensuring continued high level service delivery to the CUH Trust, through the implementation of effective leadership, operational planning, and process management.

The post holder will be responsible for developing and implementing the Trust’s security policies and procedures and for auditing the application of these procedures.

The post holder will liaise effectively with managers and services to make complex decisions that will impact on the security of all. This will involve complex and sometimes controversial conversations that require diplomacy and decisions to be made that may not be popular. Excellent negotiation skills will be required to reach an end result that is workable.

The post holder will provide a central advisory and information service on all matters concerning security.  Based on current Approved Codes of Practice (ACOP’s), British and European standards, legacy NHS Protect and guidance notes, together with all other national initiatives and directives on security.

Qualifications

  • Professional degree or diploma in relevant field or equivalent qualification/ operational experience
  • Security Management qualification or equivalent working experience
  • Evidence of continuous professional development
  • Conflict Resolution Management

  • Degree in Security Management or equivalent
  • Qualification in Management & Leadership, such as ILM certification
  • Recognised NHS accreditation, such as LSMS/ASMS status
  • NEBOSH national certificate in occupational health and safety or above

Experience

  • Proven background in security management with an emphasis of success within operational delivery
  • Experience in providing security solutions to enhance service delivery
  • Experience delivering training programmes/courses
  • Direct line management of staff within a challenging operational environment
  • Experience of working within a challenging public setting, with a good understanding of its processes
  • Prioritising, planning and organising own and others tasks.
  • Experience of dealing with difficult situations and confrontations Experience of setting policies and procedures, with formal documentation and implementation

  • Background in contractual management within operational environment
  • Experience and knowledge of technical security systems such as CCTV, Access Control, Intruder Alarms
  • Experience of Incident Reporting Systems, such as Datrix
  • Experience of working in a large Acute NHS Trust/complex health setting
  • Experience of analysing data, writing reports and presenting to various groups
  • Experience of undertaking staff investigations, disciplinary processes and supporting action
  • Experience of undertaking staff appraisals and seeking personnel development of staff members

Knowledge

  • Specialist knowledge of Security management systems
  • Understanding of Approved Codes of Practice (ACOP’s), British and European standards, Health and Safety Executive (HSE) Directives, legacy NHS Protect and guidance notes.
  • Knowledge of NHS standard contract and in particular with regard to NHS Violence Prevention & Reduction Standards and Security Management
  • Clear knowledge of contract management within a security environment.
  • Understanding and clear knowledge of operational management and delivery

  • Knowledge of Technical Security Systems within the NHS
  • Knowledge of operational security practices and protocols within a healthcare setting
  • To have an understanding and ability to advise on the law in relation to but not limited to Stalking, Harassment, Assault, GBH, ABH, Trespass and Criminal damage
  • Knowledge of wider corporate and quality governance issues eg health and safety, NHS Improvement and CQC requirements and standards
  • Knowledge of people governance policies and procedures
  • Knowledge of HR working practices, including staff management, development and support

Skills
