Applications are invited for a Consultant in Metabolic Medicine with a specialist interest in Inherited Metabolic Disease in Adults (7.5 PAs) at Addenbrooke’s Hospital, part of Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
The successful candidate will join three Adult IMD consultants and work alongside a team of specialist nurses and allied health professionals. The service provides care for adolescents and adults (aged 16 years and older) with inherited metabolic disorders. The unit is a designated NHS England highly specialised lysosomal storage disorder service and includes an infusion unit which provides the facilities needed for patients on enzyme replacement and other therapies. We have a long history of involvement in research and clinical trials of new therapies for inherited disorders of metabolism.
Main duties of the job
You will be fully registered with the GMC and have a CCT in a specialty of relevance to adult inherited metabolic disorders. This might include General Internal Medicine, Metabolic Medicine, Hepatology, Nephrology, Neurology, Cardiology or Paediatric Metabolic Disease.
Applicants should have relevant clinical experience in field of IMD. Responsibilities will include outpatient work, day-ward and inpatient consults, out of hours emergency on-call (by telephone) per rota, transition work, clinical trial supervision and supervision of undergraduate and post-graduate trainees.

Leadership is a key requirement of doctors’ professional work and this innovative programme is designed to support Consultants to hone the leadership and management skills they need to succeed at CUH.

The applicant must have demonstrable skills in listening, reading, writing and speaking in English that enable effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues, as set out in the GMC’s Good Medical Practice (2013). Non-UK applicants must possess the IELTS/OET exam before obtaining a GMC licence to practice.
