Cleft Image Technician/Medical Photographer

There is an opportunity to join the Media Studio Department's Medical Photography team to support the Cleft, Lip and Palate service.  This fixed term role involves a broad range of duties including clinical photography, general and PR photography, video production, ophthalmic imaging and 3D imaging.

The main purpose of the role is to support Cleft.Net.East, the regional Cleft Lip and Palate Service Nasendo-scopy/ video Fluoroscopy recordings and the ENT and Audiology services. Management of digital clinical video and photographic records will be an important part of the role. 

There will also be opportunity to work collaboratively in the development of video resources for patient and professional groups

You will have regular involvement in Cleft.Net.East multidisciplinary meetings; operate video cameras and recorders; manage and edit the Cleft team’s video recordings; assist with the preparation of presentations for the Cleft.Net.East audit meetings, including the collation and preparation of clinical images; implement and maintain robust storage, archiving and cataloguing systems for Cleft.Net.East images, in conjunction with the Cleft.Net.East team, medical photography team and relevant IT staff.

You will have the opportunity to rotate through all duties of the photography team and will report to the Team Leader.

The clinical photography service includes routine clinical photography and video recording both in the studio and on location, photography in clinical trials, photography of operative and post mortem procedures, gross specimens, medico-legal photography and photography of stillbirths.

The Ophthalmic photography service includes retinal photography, ocular coherence tomography, fluorescein angiography, wide-field retinal photography and slit-lamp photography.

“Other” photography includes public relations photography, I.D. photography, studio and environmental portraiture, photography of instrumentation, procedures, and buildings.

Video production includes recordings for clinical records of the dynamic aspects of disease and treatment and taking part in the production of work for teaching and training purposes as requested by the department’s clients.

  • Degree in Photography or equivalent or: BSc or MSc in Medical photography/ Medical Illustration

  • Evidence of CPD activity
  • Graduate or postgraduate certificate, postgraduate diploma, IMI PEC, or equivalent
  • Registered as a Medical illustration practitioner with CAMIP

Experience

  • Clinical photography: studio, ward, operating theatre
  • General (non-clinical) professional photography
  • Editing of digital video recordings for export to a variety of video file formats

  • Ophthalmic imaging: slit-lamp, retinal, fluorescein angiography, scanning laser ophthalmoscopy, Optical Coherence Tomography
  • Video camera, lighting and/ or sound recording
  • Reprographic imaging: copy photography, scanning and processing of digital images to a high standard
  • Public relations photography

Knowledge

  • Photographic principles, e.g. colour management, image manipulation, understanding of lighting principles and relevant photographic theory
  • Anatomy, physiology, medical terminology to an appropriate level
