Due to the retirement of the current post holder, we are seeking a highly driven, enthusiastic and organised individual to join the Clinical Income Team on a permanent basis.
Reporting to the Deputy Head of Income, you will be an integral part of the team and a key link with the wider finance team. This is a very varied and interesting role; from supporting business planning and forecasting, to producing financial reports for divisional teams and meeting with them to review their income position and also providing advice and guidance across the trust. You will come across a wide variety of stakeholders in this role.
Main duties of the job
In order to flourish in the role, the post holder will have a good understanding and experience of NHS Clinical Income, namely the NHS Payment Scheme. You may be asked by a clinical service to interpret their monthly performance against targets, or review the tariffs being applied for example. The CUH clinical income team bills approximately £1.4 billion a year and the whole team works together to produce timely and accurate monthly reports. Your feedback and insight into the reports will be invaluable. You should also have experience of working with large databases and quantities of data and be comfortable working in Microsoft Excel and producing pivot tables and lookups. Flexibility, good communication and creativity are also musts as demands can vary and NHS guidance is continually adapting.
This is a very unique role within a friendly team of 13 people. We work very flexibly, currently with approximately 60% remote working and 40% in the office on the main CUH Campus.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Completion of a Consultancy Committee of Accountancy Bodies (CCAB) recognised accountancy qualification or professional IT qualification with post qualification experience in a management role, or equivalent experience or a degree.
Desirable criteria
- Experience of a large complex organisation along with an understanding of the operational aspects of the organisation.
Experience
Essential criteria
- Advanced technical and personal skills and competencies acquired from experience across a range of accountancy functions at a senior level
- Experience of handling large amounts of data
- NHS experience relevant to Finance
Desirable criteria
- Experience of SQL/Database Management
- Experience of Business Intelligence software (eg ‘Qlikview’).
- Experience of motivating and developing a team to achieve desired objectives.
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- A thorough understanding of NHS accounting and reporting issues
- An understanding of Payments by Results
- Advanced Knowledge of, and competence in, the use of spreadsheets and be able to develop models using advance spreadsheets techniques.
- Understand and be able to apply the concepts and techniques for: Budgeting and financial planning, Costing and pricing, Variance analysis and financial reporting, The purpose of accounting accruals and provisions
