Would you like a Finance role working for one of the largest NHS Trusts in the UK that is both exciting and challenging? If so, we at Cambridge University Hospitals are seeking just such a person to join our Finance Team as an Assistant Management Accountant
We are a large, diverse department seeking a talented, motivated, organised and ambitious individual who will exhibit the values of the Trust in serving the patients and population of the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough region. Reporting to the Senior Management Accountant you will be providing financial reporting and transactional support to them as well as looking after your own range of cost centres. The Assistant Management Accountant is not only an integrated member of the finance team; they also work closely with colleagues from across the Trust.
There are excellent development opportunities as we offer CPD, training and Study Support. We are an accredited employer for ACCA, CIPFA and CIMA and have been awarded Level 1 accreditation by One NHS Finance.
Main duties of the job
This post is a challenging and creative role where the ability to communicate well with colleagues across the Trust is important. The successful candidate will be self-motivated, able to prioritise their own work and to work to deadlines. You will have experience using Microsoft packages (i.e. Excel, Outlook, Word, etc.) with proven ability to analyse complex data and transform it into meaningful reports. You will demonstrate confidence, analytical ability, and a flexible approach to the demands of the job.
This unique role also has the opportunity to progress from a Band 4 Assistant Management Accountant to a Band 5 Management Accountant, following the completion of the on the job training criteria. The training criteria will be something which you are able to work towards with your line manager as part of your regular 1:1s and will form part of your CPD development.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Educated to A level standard or equivalent GCSE or Higher level Mathematics.
- Able to input data onto pre-prepared spread sheets or word documents.
Desirable criteria
- ECDL qualification or equivalent experience- able to set up spreadsheets and documents.
- Educated to Degree level
- Educated to Association of Accounting Technicians Intermediate Level, or equivalent experience.
Experience
Essential criteria
- Microsoft Office – preparing reports in Word and using Excel for data – being able to use different formulae
Desirable criteria
- Experience of working in an accounting department in a management accounting role within a large organisation.
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Understand the use and purpose of accounting accruals and provisions.
- Understand the concepts used in the costing of services.
- Ability to develop advanced spreadsheet skills.
Skills
Essential criteria
- An ability to listen to budget holders, senior managers and to respond to questions or requests for information in a way which non-financial staff will understand and can interpret.
- Good oral and written communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with both non-finance and finance staff.
- Good interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate with staff at all levels within the organisation.
- Able to carry out work with the required attention to detail in a busy financial management department.
- Able to concentrate and focus on a range of issues particularly during the monthly reporting cycle.
- Able to prioritise own workload.
