Are you a skilled and experienced Radiographer with a passion for breast imaging?
We have an exciting opportunity available for a Consultant Radiographer within Breast Imaging. You will be an independent, accountable Practitioner working on your own initiative and taking a lead role in clinical decision making, working collaboratively with the wider multi-professional Breast Imaging and Surgical Team (MDT).
You should have HCPC registration as a Radiographer, hold the Postgraduate Award in Mammography and, in addition, will have a post-graduate qualification at Masters level in breast imaging, film reading / reporting, Interventional breast techniques, breast ultrasound and have experience in the Breast Imaging Service.
Applicants who are 6 months away from completing their training to be a Consultant Radiographer may be considered.
You will be expected to be competent in all aspects of breast imaging and will include mammography interpretation, performing and interpreting breast ultrasound, performing biopsy and localisation procedures. You will play an important role in the Breast Unit and will join the existing Breast Team which comprises of Consultant Radiologists, Consultant Radiographers, Advanced Practitioners and Radiographers.
Main duties of the job
- To provide a Consultant Breast Radiographer service providing a specialist opinion for breast imaging. This will include mammography interpretation, performing and interpreting breast ultrasound, performing biopsy and localisation procedures, recommending further action where necessary.
- Provide expert professional advice to other professionals, multidisciplinary groups, patients and carers.
- Play a pivotal role in the integration of research evidence into practice by delivering enhanced quality in the areas of assessment, diagnosis and management to improve outcomes for patients.
- Undertake research, audit and education activities.
- Contribute in an advisory role to the operational and strategic development of breast imaging services whilst ensuring delivery of the clinical governance agenda of the Breast Unit.
- Promote the Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust as a nationally recognised centre of excellence in Breast Imaging.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- HCPC registered Radiographer, DCR or BSc Hons
- Certificate of Competence in Mammography / Post Graduate Certificate in Mammography Practice
- MSc in Breast Imaging (mammography)
- Substantial period as an Advanced Practitioner
- Demonstration of continuing professional development
Desirable criteria
- Current GCP certificate (training can be arranged)
- Leadership training
Experience
Essential criteria
- Significant Mammography experience in both screening and symptomatic setting
- Specialist clinical expertise in advanced Mammography practice
- Experience of working as an independent Practitioner
- Supervision and training of staff
- Involvement in service planning and development
- Conducting research and audit and dissemination of results in a variety of ways and settings
Desirable criteria
- Teaching experience
- Published papers and presentations
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Knowledge and application of IR(ME)R
- Extensive knowledge of the mammographic and sonographic appearance of the breast, including manifestations of abnormal or suspicious areas, also normal variations including age related changes and changes due to surgery / radiotherapy
- Extensive and thorough knowledge of the NHS Breast Screening Programme
- Understanding of clinical governance and ethico-legal responsibilities and accountability associated with advanced practice
- Knowledge of the research process including data analysis
