Specialist Audiologist

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated and enthusiastic individual to join the Emmeline Centre, an IQIPS accredited and well-established Hearing Implant Service for adults and children. We provide cochlear implants, bone conducting hearing devices, middle ear and auditory brainstem implants for patients across the East of England. The Emmeline Team is friendly and dedicated towards the delivery of an excellent service for all our users, as well as constantly looking for service improvements. The Centre is purpose-built, located within Addenbrooke’s Hospital. We have good links with the research teams from multiple implant companies and the University of Cambridge who are also located within the Emmeline Centre, facilitating some collaborative work.

 

You will work within a multidisciplinary team, undertaking assessments and programming predominantly for adults with all types of hearing implants. There may be opportunities to have some involvement in the paediatric team. You will have input in departmental projects, including staff training, audit and research.

Experience in routine audiology clinics is expected. Knowledge of different hearing implant devices is desirable, but not essential, as full training will be provided.

This post will be actively involved with the following:

1)   You will be responsible for the provision of a comprehensive audiology service to adults within the context of the wider department.

2)   Carry out a range of diagnostic audiological tests.

3)   Provide comprehensive rehabilitation service to implanted adults.

4)   Maintain own professional knowledge and contribute to the clinical developments of the department.

5)   Use knowledge and experience in the training and supervision of staff.

6)   Participate in audit and research.

Qualifications

  • BSc/MSc in Clinical Audiology and equivalent knowledge/expertise in field.
  • Registered or working toward registration to practice as an Audiologist/Clinical Scientist with either Health Care Professions Council (HCPC) or registration Council for Clinical Physiologists

  • Doctorate/ PhD in Audiology or related field
  • Sign Language: stage 1
  • Counselling/coaching qualification (basic)
  • Membership of BAA, BSA
  • Training with auditory implants

Experience

  • Extensive experience in the relevant clinical area and evidence of clinical competency with complex patient caseload.

  • Leadership experience, including record of successful supervision and training
  • Evidence of autonomous and unsupervised working
  • Working with auditory implants

Knowledge

  • Advanced skills in behavioural testing of full patient age-range.
  • Advanced skills in performing and interpreting physiological measures (SRT; ESRT; NRT; ECochG; ABR; ASSR; eABR, eCAER).
  • Ability to extract clinical information from and communicate complex technical explanations to, deaf and deafened persons, including carers.
  • Ability to work with adults/children with profound, sometimes multiple, disabilities, who exhibit challenging behaviour, sometimes highly emotive or aggressive.
  • Computer-literate, with good keyboard skills.
  • Ability to collect, analyse and interpret complex technical data whilst under pressure (e.g. .in the operating theatre; communicating with deaf person)
