We are moving to a brand new, state of the art laboratory in 2025 and are looking to expand our workforce before that move.  

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual to join the Histopathology Department in the role of a Biomedical Scientist. 

You will work as part of a large and enthusiastic team, contributing to a wide variety of procedures in a busy environment. Tasks require a meticulous attention to detail and a high level of manual dexterity. Patient focus and a drive for quality, with an understanding of the importance of accurate test results are essential. You will be highly organised with good time management skills and self-motivation, but also need a flexible approach to work well within a team.

Experience of diagnostic Histopathology laboratory work is desirable but not essential as full training will be provided.

Main duties of the job

• Performs a wide range of routine healthcare science activities, whilst supporting junior members of staff including specimen receipt, specimen preparation including assisting pathologists at cut-up, embedding and microtomy of surgical tissue, slide collation, specimen storage and maintenance of equipment
• Maintains clinical and maintenance records in relation to activities carried out.
• Demonstrate own duties to new or less experienced employees.
• To work flexibly in reflection of service needs this may include an extended working day and/or participation in delivery of a 24 hour, 7 days per week service.
• The work of the service brings staff into constant contact with human body fluids, tissues and hazardous chemicals.  This may include urine, faeces, and respiratory secretions.
• Participation in specialist areas of the laboratory.
