Blood Sciences Training Manager

The CUH Blood Sciences team are excited to be recruiting a Training Manager to ensure that our technical and scientific staff support the Laboratory's aims by providing a professionally competent workforce, while also enabling the staff to develop their careers within the service.
Working alongside the Clinical, Operational and Scientific Blood Sciences Leads our Training Manager be responsible for the management and oversight of training within Blood Sciences (comprising Haematology and Biochemistry) for all non-medical staff grades.
The ideal candidate for this role will be a Biomedical or Clinical Scientist with demonstrable experience of working at a senior level within a Pathology discipline. You will be passionate about training, education and staff development with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Main duties of the role include:
- Efficiently manage the training and competency assessment of new and current Biomedical Scientists, Associate Practitioners and MLA staff in Blood Sciences.
- Responsible for the documentation and management of electronic training records.
- Responsible for the implementation of training programs for all grades of staff in including Specialist registrars, STP and HSST students and apprentices.
- Ensure the provision of continued professional development opportunities for both registered and non-registered technical staff
- Responsible for auditing and assessing the compliance of staff in line with regulatory body expectations.
- Responsible for the maintenance of the training status of the Blood Sciences laboratory with the IBMS and AHCS.

- Experience of working as a Senior Biomedical Scientist or Clinical Scientist at band 7 or above in a UK Blood Sciences laboratory
- Significant experience of supervising and undertaking training of staff at all levels
- Experience of writing monthly reports and action plans

- Previous relevant experience of working in the NHS
- Experience of performing incident investigations, audit and risk assessments.
- Experience of workforce development
- Experience of project management
Qualifications

- HCPC Registration as a Biomedical Scientist or Clinical Scientist.
- Appropriate post-graduate qualification in Blood Sciences e.g. FIBMS by examination (Special examination, two-part Fellowship or Higher Specialist Diploma) or MSc in Blood Sciences accredited by the IBMS.
- Evidence of CPD.
- Management and training qualification

Knowledge

- Highly specialised knowledge of Blood Sciences procedures and techniques
- Detailed knowledge of IBMS specialist, registration and achievement portfolios
- Detailed knowledge of apprenticeship programs relevant to all professional groups within a clinical laboratory, including support staff.
- Knowledge of quality management systems, good practice guidelines and ISO 15189 standards with regards to training, competency and CPD.
- Knowledge of IBMS laboratory approval for training status.
