Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Commissioning team as Commissioning Manager. This is a high profile role within the Trust, which involves the financial and performance management of a portfolio of contracts.

The appointee will work with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders and as such, the ability to build relationships, communicate effectively, and work collaboratively to resolve emergent contractual issues are essential.

Main duties of the job

Support the Deputy Director of Commissioning and Senior Commissioning Manager in securing legally binding contracts for NHS and non-NHS services.

Work with the Deputy Director of Commissioning and Senior Commissioning Manager to ensure that appropriate legal frameworks are in place to enable contracts to be secured, reflecting the Trust’s operational and financial capacity to deliver.

As a core member of the Commissioning team, you will help to provide an effective and responsive central commissioning / contracts service, working closely with operational and financial managers to secure service contracts.

This role will help to ensure the continued development and performance of the Commissioning department in supporting clinical service delivery within the Trust.

Within the role you will assist in identifying any process issues within the organisation relating to commissioning / contracting functions and provide solutions as and when appropriate.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Educated to A level or professional equivalent.
Desirable criteria
  • Educated to degree level, or professional equivalent.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Previous experience of working in the health service
  • Experience of working in a commissioning, contracting, procurement or financial planning role
  • Experience of delivering sound contractual agreements
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of negotiating in a resource constrained environment

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge of national commissioning policy, including the National Payment System and NHS Standard Contract frameworks relating to NHS Trusts
Desirable criteria
  • Awareness of the changing commissioning landscape within the NHS

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Excellent written and verbal presentation skills
  • Good MS Office skills, (Excel and Word)
  • Ability to work as a member of a team
