We are seeking to recruit an enthusiastic and motivated Dietitian to join our post of Specialist Home Enteral Feeding and Nutrition Support Dietitian.

The role involves providing high quality patient centred dietetic care.  You will work alongside a well-established Home Enteral Feeding team; as well as being part of the wider Dietetic department within Cambridge & Peterborough NHS Foundation Trust (CPFT). CPFT has 23 dietitians and 13 Dietetic Assistants/Assistant Practitioners as well as our administration team. 


The post holder needs to be highly organised, adaptable and able to work under pressure, with Home enteral feeding, plans often needing to change at short notice. Good support will be provided to the successful candidate including clinical supervision. Successful candidates must be a car driver and be able to travel around the county at short notice as this is a community based post involving frequent travel to patient homes, care homes and other venues.

This post will be mainly covering the Cambridge & Fenland localities but may involve on occasions supporting surrounding areas. 

Main duties of the job

To provide a specialist dietetic service in the community to a wide variety of complex adult clients with feeding tubes, including advice on tube care, administration of feeds and ordering.

To nutritionally diagnose, give appropriate advice and formulate treatment plans when consulting with patients, relatives and carers, taking into account factors such as the clients presenting condition, past medical history, social considerations and medication.

To act as a point of reference for dietetic colleagues and other health professionals with respect to nutrition and HEF, giving advice, training, and supporting their clinical practice.

To support the department's Preceptorship and student training programme, when appropriate.

To participate in regular supervision in accordance with good practice guidelines and Trust policy.

Protection of Children & Vulnerable Adults – To promote and safeguard the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults.

To comply with the Professional Codes of Conduct and to be aware of changes in these. To maintain up to date knowledge of all relevant legislation and local policies and procedures implementing this.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Please note for this role you will be required to travel independently around the county meeting strict time deadlines. You will need to hold a full UK driving licence* and have use of a vehicle. You cannot use public transport for this role as this is not a reliable form of transport and will not allow you to meet service needs.   • To deliver a specialist Home Enteral Feeding (HEF) role in the Nutrition and Dietetic Service in Cambridge & Peterborough Foundation Trust (CPFT).
  • To work as a dietetic practitioner within uni-professional and multi-professional team environments with regular supervision
  • To assess and treat a case load of patients in line with the Model and Process for Dietetic Consultations and maintain associated records.
  • Deliver a high standard of dietetic care.
  • To deliver education and training sessions related to HEF and Nutrition Support.
  • To supervise or monitor the work of assistants, students or other dietetic staff.
  • To be professionally and legally accountable for all aspects of your own work and workload

  • Skilled dietetic practitioner
  • Organisation skilles
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Strong communication skills and ability to communicate complex ideas to a variety of audiences
  • Advanced keyboard skills and ability to communicate through IT using packages such as Word, Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Self starter – able to problem solve and take a strategic view
  • Ability to be innovative and take initiative
  • Can manage own time and workload, showing the ability to prioritise critical work
  • Demonstrates ability to work constructively with colleagues as a member of a team
  • Effectively work with other services and outside organisations

Desirable criteria
  • Previous use of Systm1 or equivalent IT system
  • Ability to advise on the manipulation of relevant medications, within safe boundaries, i.e. tube feeds and supplements

Education and Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Qualification in dietetics recognised by the HCPC for registration as a dietitian working in the uK
  • Degree level qualification or equivalent work experience
  • Strong evidence of CPD (portfolio) for ongoing maintenance of competencies
Desirable criteria
  • Clinical supervision training
  • Student training course

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Relevant post registration experience
  • HEF/Nutrition support specific experience including management of long term conditions
  • Multidisciplinary team working
  • Understanding of the nature of community care in the NHS
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of research and audit
  • Previous experience in mentoring and clinical supervision of dietetic colleagues
  • Active participation in student training in previous post(s)
  • Working with clinical units/GP partners, including Local Commissioning Groups, Medicines Management, CCG.
  • Experience in resource development
