Milton Keynes University Hospital is looking for a dedicated and experienced Band 7 Radiographer skilled in both CT and MRI. Join our friendly and inclusive Radiology department, equipped with state-of-the-art Canon CT systems and Siemens MRI machines. We provide a dynamic and supportive environment where you’ll work as part of a multidisciplinary team dedicated to delivering high-quality diagnostic services.

In this role, you'll help develop and maintain a responsive, high-quality 7-day CT and MRI service. You’ll participate in the MRI on-call roster, CT night shift roster, and assist General Radiographers with out-of-hours emergency services. With our exciting plans for a new Community Diagnostic Centre featuring advanced technology, and construction of a new scanning centre, you’ll have the opportunity to contribute to innovative patient care across multiple sites. Your responsibilities will also include staff training, maintaining high standards, and service development.

To  work as an advanced diagnostic radiographer and to demonstrate a high level of competence and understanding across a wide range of specialist CT and MRI procedures including a variety of complex clinical presentations whilst managing patient priority as appropriate.

The ability to demonstrate an expert knowledge base with complex decision-making skills and the clinical competency for extended scope of practice within imaging modalities CT & MRI.

To provide advanced CT & MRI knowledge and advice to patients, carers, and other members of the radiography team as well as other imaging staff.

To take an active part in the supervision and training of radiographers, APs and student radiographers with their individual development needs in mind and to provide induction support and mentorship to new members of staff.

To share advanced CT & MRI knowledge and skills with other members of the multi-disciplinary team and to work within and support the multi-disciplinary team.

 Maintain effective communication and professional relationships with all areas within Radiology and with associated clinical areas within the Trust acting as a point of advice for referrers and patients when clarification is needed.

To contribute to service improvements and re-design in line with national and local service strategies, National Service Frameworks, NICE guidance, and emerging relevant NHS policies.

Deputise for the superintendent and deputy superintendent radiographers in operational management when required and to undertake any other duties appropriate to the grade as directed by the Non ionising radiation and ionising radiation operational leads.

To undertake flexible working hours including nights and demonstrate working practices as required for the efficient running of both the CT & MRI service. This will involve managing the radiographic team out of hours when required to do so.

To contribute to a professional, high quality, effective, flexible, and efficient radiology service implementing best practice, local and national guidelines and policies.

Clinical

  • To independently undertake a wide range of CT & MRI procedures, ensuring high professional standards of technical competence and patient care are maintained at all times.
  • Able to work in an advanced practitioner capacity, with a high degree of autonomy to provide clinical support and advice to other radiographic practitioners.

Communication and relationship skills

  • To communicate information concerning their specialist imaging modality areas to patients/clients, relatives, and other professionals.
  • To appropriately manage situations where the communication topic is extremely delicate, sensitive, or controversial (for example: with work colleagues, service users, relatives, etc).

Analytical and Judgemental skills

  • Must possess skills for accurately assessing a range of complex, acute and other patient conditions so as to tailor diagnostic scanning protocols which take into account the optimization of the diagnostic images gained.
  • Must handle complicated situations made up of several components, which may be conflicting or where some information is unavailable.

Planning and organisational skills 

  • The post holder is responsible for organising the daily workload.
  • Must ensure appropriate skill mix and training support for those staff performing CT/MRI duties; juggling case mix and urgency of workload ensuring the department provides a timely service.

Responsibility – patient/client care

  • Provides a specialist and tailored CT & MRI service which contributes to diagnosis, care or treatment. Is expected to work closely with consultants, referrers, and other key health professionals to induce multidisciplinary teamwork on safe and effective care for patients with complex needs.

Qualifications and knowledge

  • BSc (Hons) Diagnostic Radiography, DCR(D) Diploma of the College of Radiographers or equivalent
  • Quality Improvement, transformation, and innovation training
  • Health and Care Professions Council Registration
  • Evidence of a sound level of computer literacy (MS Teams, word, outlook, power point and excel)
  • Familiarity with hospital information systems (HIS), radiology information systems (RIS) and picture archiving communications systems (PACS)
  • Good understanding of health and safety requirements
  • Sound awareness of data protection, freedom of information and confidentiality issues within NHS
  • Evidence of keeping informed of the current MR & CT imaging techniques & practices via short courses & study days to underpin knowledge development.
  • Knowledge of relevant national imaging standards (e.g., IR(ME)R 2017, IRR ’17 and associated codes of practice)
