We are looking for an ENT Registrar to run clinics, routine and emergency theatre lists, support ward-rounds, the on-call rota and carry out administration related activities. 

Main duties of the job

You will be expected to participation in day-to-day activities of the department in cooperation with the rest of the END surgical staffing. You will need experienced in:

·       Experience in the management of patients with ENT problems.

·       Ability to manage ENT emergencies

·       General ENT surgical skills to intermediate complexity

·  Ability to perform Tonsillectomy, Septoplasty, Grommet insertion, Turbinate surgery, polypectomy and minor skin surgery without supervision

·       Understanding of clinical risk management

·       Validated logbook with summary documentation of surgical exposure

·    Capacity to apply sound clinical knowledge & judgement & prioritise clinical need.

·  Demonstrates appropriate technical and clinical competence and evidence of the development of diagnostic skills and clinical judgement.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible to and work under the supervision of the ENT Consultants. You will be expected to participate in most of the day to day activities of the department in co-operation with the rest of the ENT surgical staffing. It is expected that you will participate in operating lists, out-patient clinics, and carrying out administration related to these activities. They are expected to help with in-patient management / provide advice to junior medical staff where appropriate. The successful candidate is expected to participate in all the other on-going activities of the department including audit, research projects and to attend departmental meetings and teaching sessions. They will also be involved in the supervision and training of junior doctors and Medical Students within the hospital. 

The post-holder will participate in the second-tier on-call provision for ENT emergencies. This on-call commitment is for MKUH only. The current on-call frequency is 1 in 7.

Qualifications/ Registration

Essential criteria
  • MBBS or equivalent
  • Applicants must hold full GMC registration with a license to practise.
Desirable criteria
  • MRCS/FRCS DOHNS

Experience/Training

Essential criteria
  • A minimum of 4 years’ experience at Registrar or equivalent level in ENT
  • Adequate experience of the speciality of ENT to provide effective and safe management of outpatients and elective patients.
Desirable criteria
  • Ability to carry out outpatient and operating lists independently

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Appropriate level of clinical knowledge
  • Knowledge and application of up to date evidence based practice
  • IT and Computer Skills
Desirable criteria
  • Understanding of NHS, clinical governance and resource constraints
  • Awareness of management issues – structures and planning Interest in Audit
  • Demonstrates knowledge of principles, methods and objectives of audit.
  • Active involvement in Audit

Clinical Skills
