Staff Nurse (Angiography)
Band 5 £28,407 - £34,581 per annum
Full Time Role
An exciting opportunity has become available to work in the Cardiac catheter Lab at Milton Keynes University Hospital. The unit includes a 6 bedded day unit which runs morning and afternoon lists for both inpatients and outpatients.
Time management, prioritization and delegation skills are essential. Excellent communication skills are paramount as you will be liaising with a wide range of departments and members of the multidisciplinary team from within the Trust. Experience in caring for cardiology patients is desirable.
The unit is a fast paced and exciting area to work in, as a staff nurse you will be involved in assisting for procedures such as Angiograms, Angioplasty, Pacemaker insertions, Direct Current Cardioversions (DCCV) and many other procedures.
This is an exciting time in the unit, with the department starting a new angioplasty service in 2023.
On joining the team, you will attend a week long Trust Induction program followed by 4 weeks working alongside an existing team member, in a supernumerary capacity. During this period, you will also have the opportunity to spend time with some of the
Cardiac nurse specialists, the cardiac physiologists as well as going to the CCU/ cardiology ward.
This role will require a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual with the ability to multi task, provide support to other members of the team and deliver excellent patient care.

- To provide effective, professional, and managerial leadership to staff in the absence of the ward sister/charge nurse and/or senior staff nurse
- To provide and maintain a high standard of nursing care, working in accordance with trust polices and the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) code of professional conduct at all times.
- To supervise and develop the knowledge and skills of junior staff and student nurses.
- To initiate/facilitate developments in nursing in partnership with the ward manager.
- To assist the ward sister in the review of nursing practice and service delivery so that it is reflective of the National Service Framework and the British Cardiovascular Society/European Society of Cardiology Guidelines.
- To contribute to the continuing development of the unit, helping with the implementation and evaluation of new projects/developments.
- To ensure that all lines of communication are identified and used effectively; to maintain a high standard of nursing care within the framework of the trust policies.
- Develop and maintain specialist knowledge of nursing practise relevant to the clinical are.
- Effectively communicate information to the patient/relatives/carers and all members of the Multidisciplinary team.

Clinical
· To demonstrate and promote a patient centred style of clinical practice, to assess patients prior to being admitted for cardiology diagnostic and interventional procedures.
· To monitor and care for patients pre and post cardiac procedures on the day ward.
· To scrub with the doctors for a wide range of cardiac procedures and be the running nurse during procedures in the cardiac catheter laboratory.
Professional
· To demonstrate a professional approach to leadership and management of self and colleagues.
· To provide clinical support and advice to junior members of staff as appropriate.
· To participate in the development of research-based practice.
Service Management
· To assist, when necessary, with the definition of nursing standards and maintain the provision and effectiveness of those standards in line with clinical governance.
· The post holder will ensure that they are aware of all issues relating to Clinical governance, Quality assurance and Clinical Effectiveness and that they carry out their duties in accordance with these frameworks and standards.
Education
· To help to create and maintain an environment conducive to development and learning for all staff. To assist, when necessary, with induction and orientation programs for staff ensuring that the needs of the ward are met.
· Use reflective practice to enhance development of self and others.
· To develop skills in line with NMC guidelines to supervise/ mentor/ support and educate less experienced, non-registered staff and students in the clinical practice settings.
