Job overview

This is an opportunity to take on the role of Band 7,  Lead Cardiac Radiographer. The post holder will join the team of specialist radiographers within radiology at Wycombe Hospital, being the lead for Cath Lab but also rotating across other specialities within the department.

Wycombe radiology is certainly a department on the up with Additional CT and MRI scanners being installed this financial year. The department is in the final stages of installing new DR X-Ray rooms in the main department and work is due to begin later this year to replace our existing Gamma camera with a new SPECT-CT. 

Wycombe Hospital has 2 GE Innova Cath Lab systems performing a variety of different device insertions and interventional procedures as well as receiving patients for PCI. This is a really exciting time to join the cath lab team as the service looks to expand and incorporate weekend working, the successful applicant will have excellent change management skills and will be central in helping shape the improved service.

Wycombe radiology has a 24 Hour on call service supporting the regional stroke service and the applicant for this role would be expected to take part to support acute and planned work over evenings and weekends in and CT and/or MRI depending on experience.

Main duties of the job

Some of the key duties of the role are as follows but for full details please see the Job Description and Person Specification;

  • Lead RPS for Cardiac, Training to be provided if required.
  • Maintain the highest levels of radiation safety with the Cath lab environment including effective use of PPE, QA assurance programmes and and effective shielding and dosimetry use.
  • Be a role model  for staff in the Cath Lab environment showing the highest levels of professionalism and clinical capability.
  • Take an active role in service development.
  • Be an effective communicator both to Radiographic staff and the wider MDT.
  • Be able to explain procedures to a wide audience of patients and staff.
  • Training of junior staff including students and the maintenance of effective training records.
  • Be a senior Radiographer within the main radiology department working across a selections of specialities including, CT, MRI, Plain Film, Nuclear Medicine and Minor Intervention.
  • Take part in the OOH rota.
  • Organise Maintenance of the cath labs, trouble shoot and organise engineers when there are issues. 
  • Undertake staff appraisals and 1 to 1 meetings.
  • Escalate issues to senior radiology management.

EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS

Essential criteria
  • Degree or equivalent in Radiography
  • HCPC Registration
  • Evidence of CPD and attendance at relevant short courses
Desirable criteria
  • Post Graduate Certificate
  • Radiation protection Supervisor RPS

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience in radiography including out of hours work
  • Supervision and training of junior colleagues
  • Specialist experience in Cardiac Cath lab
  • Experience in specialist area CT/MRI/NM
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of day to day running of a service.
  • Appraisal experience
  • Experience of Quality Assurance or up-to-date knowledge of Health & Safety and Risk Assessment issues.
  • Advanced Practice - PICC lines, U/S Guided procedures, Reporting

SKILLS, ABILITIES & KNOWLEDGE

Essential criteria
  • Ionising Radiation Legislation
  • Venepuncture and cannulation
  • Manual handling skills
  • Clear concise oral and written communication skills in order to deal with a range of staff/ patients and provide written reports.
  • Ability to develop protocols for clinical imaging
  • Knowledge of Health & Safety issues
  • Computer literate, Strong IT skills, including the post processing of complex imaging
Desirable criteria
  • Keyboard skills
  • Organisational skills
  • Appraisal and objective setting

SPECIAL CIRCUMSTANCES
