Job overview

We have a Band 2 Healthcare Assistant position in our busy and thriving Outpatients department working across both High Wycombe and Amersham Hospital, as part of Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust. 
                    

Main duties of the job

  • Ensure clinics are prepared and ready in good time, to ensure an efficient professional service can be provided. 
  • Communicate with patients and their visitors in order to promote their comfort and well-being
  •  Communication with other members of the organisation and respond appropriately 
  • Perform basic observations, BP, pulse, height, weight, urinalysis, peak flow, blood glucose monitoring, reporting and recording results accurately. 
  •  Assist with collection of specimens for laboratory analysis and or collect specimens as directed, forwarding to correct location. 
  •  Act as a chaperone when required to protect the interests of patients and colleagues, and preserve the patient’s privacy and dignity. 
  •  Act as a patient advocate. 
  • Manage own workload and prioritise own actions in the work place. 
  • Staff are able and expected to work across multiple specialties, so that all areas can be covered if the regular nurses are absent e.g. Annual leave/sickness. 
  • Assist with manual handling and transferring of patients complying with the Trust Moving and Handling policy 
  • Report Accidents/incidents to nurse in charge and complete appropriate Trust forms. 
  • Direct patients to other Wards/Departments as required

This is a cross site working role between both High Wycombe and Amersham hospital

EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS

Essential criteria
  • GCSE A-C Or Functional Skills in English and Maths (Level 1 or 2)
Desirable criteria
  • Care Certificate in healthcare (Level 3)

EXPERIENCE

Essential criteria
  • Understands nature of HCA duties Patient Care and Housekeeping duties
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of working in a busy environment
  • Experience in a customer focused environment
  • Previous experience in a health care setting

SKILLS

Essential criteria
  • Courteous with patients and others both internal and external
  • Understands concept of confidentiality and standards of conduct and care
  • Ability to undertake HS&C level 3 apprenticeship (mandatory)
Desirable criteria
  • Ability to use a computer
