Main duties of the job

We are seeking an acute medical consultant to work at Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust, based at Stoke Mandeville Hospital. For full details of the post duties and responsibilities, please refer to the job description attached.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

This is an exciting opportunity for motivated individuals to join a Trust that has recently been rated “GOOD” in our CQC inspection, as we strive to reach “outstanding.”

Person specification

EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS

Essential criteria
  • • MB, BS or equivalent GMC registered qualifications
  • • CCST/ CCT in Acute or General Internal Medicine, OR Registration on GMC Specialist Register in Acute or General Internal Medicine OR within six months of achieving CCST\CCT at the time of interview
  • • CCST\CCT in desired additional specialty
  • • High Quality skills in general and acute medicine and ability to manage medical takes

Experience

Essential criteria
  • • General training in Acute Medicine or General Internal Medicine to specialist level or equivalent
  • • Research experience\publications
  • • 3 years WTE minimum at SpR level in GIM\Acute Medicine higher speciality training
  • • Ability to make decisions at consultant level

Essential criteria
  • • Sufficient leadership, organisational, communication, professional and personal skills to undertake effectively the role of consultant.
  • • Demonstrates ability to adapt leadership style, drives up standards, delegates appropriately and engages other clinical colleagues
  • • Demonstrates understanding and acceptance of organisational priorities and interacts positively with managers, demonstrating financial awareness.
  • • Demonstrates inclusivity, takes ownership and manages boundaries appropriately.
  • • Management training and experience
  • • Proactive about change, seeks out and is open to feedback, reflects on own behaviour
  • • Ability to work flexibly and adapt to increasing needs of service
  • • Ability to complete tasks
  • • Good spoken and written English.
  • • Communication skills should be highly developed. Influences and negotiates effectively, keeps patients and colleagues informed
  • • Communication skills training
  • • Experience of teaching doctors-in-training and undergraduates, demonstrates the ability to give honest and constructive feedback, creates a supportive learning environment
  • • Experience of clinical audit/research
  • • Proven ability to produce audit/research for presentation at national level
  • • Full GMC Registration
  • • Full Driving Licence and regular access to a car
