Job overview

A Full Time Medical Secretary is required in the Paediatrics department in Stoke Mandeville Hospital / Wycombe Hospital to provide a comprehensive and quality medical secretarial service to consultants and their teams.  This is a permanent position within the department.

You will provide administrative support as well as be involved in the day to day work for the consultants. You should be enthusiastic, motivated and have good organisational and communication skills. Excellent computer and audio-typing skills are also required.

Previous secretarial experience and medical terminology/knowledge is desirable.

Main duties of the job

To provide a comprehensive Medical Secretarial and Administration Service to the Department in strict accordance with Data Protection Act and Trust Confidentiality Guidelines, ensuring all work is processed in a timely, efficient way.

Provide a full and comprehensive Medical Secretarial Service, including timely audio typing of clinic letters, discharge summaries, admin letters, documents/presentations, taking and typing of minutes, agendas, and compilation of letters as required by the Consultant(s) and respective Team(s).

Skills, Abilities & Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office products
  • Excellent written and telephone communication skills, to enable liaison with staff at all levels
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of Trust Information Systems, e.g. Careflow

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of working within The NHS
  • Strong experience of word processing and audio-typing
  • Experience of working at a senior secretarial level

Education, Qualification & Training

Essential criteria
  • GCSE Grade C or above/equivalent in English Language
  • RSA II Typing, or equivalent
  • Medical terminology knowledge (AMSPAR), or ability to demonstrate equivalent ability
Desirable criteria
  • Customer Service qualification / training
  • Referral to Treatment training
