The REACT team at Stoke Mandeville Hospital is looking for a Physiotherapist who is passionate about the assessment, treatment and discharge planning of patients who present to the front door of Stoke Mandeville Hospital.
Come and join the team covering the ward areas surrounding the Accident and Emergency Department as well as the Acute Medical Unit and the new Emergency Medical Receiving Unit (E.M.R.U.)
The REACT team provides very high quality assessments in order to establish robust and swift rehabilitation and discharge plans for the patients under their care. The team is made up of Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Nursing staff and Band 4 Clinical Support Workers. We also work very closely with the Discharge Co-ordinators, Hospital Social Workers, Speech and Language Therapists and Dieticians.
This is a very friendly, supportive and dynamic team with regular integrated individual supervision and training, appraisal, CPD and use of outcome measures.
Main duties of the job
- To undertake assessments of patients with complex and diverse presentations taking into account their social needs outside of hospital.
- To undertake advanced, comprehensive, and where applicable, standardised assessments in the clinical areas stated.
- To participate within simple and complex rehabilitation and contribute to its function.
- To use clinical reasoning skills and knowledge of evidence based practice to determine treatment plan using a wide range of treatment skills and options.
- To analyse and interpret clinical and non-clinical information to form an accurate plan for a wide range of conditions, with guidance from Therapists within the team and the MDT when appropriate.

Education, Qualifications and Training
Essential criteria
- Current registration with HCPC
- Diploma/Degree in Physiotherapy
- Evidence of CPD in the form of a detailed personal development portfolio
Desirable criteria
- Field work/ Clinical Educators Course
- Specific formal courses appropriate to post speciality
- Membership of professional interest group
Experience
Essential criteria
- Experience of a Junior Physiotherapy post within the NHS
- Experience of Acute Medicine
- Knowledge of areas of clinical governance including quality, audit and risk management
- Experience of managing own caseload and prioritizing
- Ability to work and interact effectively within an interdisciplinary team and contribute to decision making
- Evidence of commitment to continuing professional development, and reflective practice
- Knowledge and application of evidence-based practice and clinical reasoning
- Establish and maintain CPD Portfolio
- Experience of emergency respiratory on-call responsibilities
Desirable criteria
- Experience of Community Physiotherapy
- Attendance at Post graduate courses in related fields and demonstrates reflective learning
- Knowledge of areas of influence of psychosocial and cultural factors on health/illness behaviours
- Experience in supervision of junior staff
- Participation in audit, research activities and development activities
- Experience of undertaking Senior (Band 6) role
- Demonstration of having initiated change of practice or process
- Experience in student clinical supervision

- Able to apply a range and depth of knowledge to the specialist clinical area of post
- Able to make sound clinical decisions based on knowledge/experience and utilize advanced clinical reasoning skills
- Able to carry out a range of assessments and procedures to make clinical assessments and diagnosis
- Able to carry out manual handling techniques, requiring skilful and strenuous physical effort during the day
- Awareness of limitations of own professional abilities
- Clear, concise verbal and written communication to ensure liaison with multi-disciplinary team, patients and carers to ensure records and reports are accurate, legal and in legible manner (in English)
- Ability to integrate, participate and contribute as an effective member of a team

- Ability to prioritise tasks and functions against well-reasoned standards
