An exciting opportunity has arisen  for a Higher-Level Pharmacy Technician's to work in the inpatient dispensary, If you are looking for that new and exciting challenge, to develop your leadership and management skills this could be just the role for you.

The Pharmacy team would love to hear from Technicians who would like to expand their skills and knowledge by joining the developing and growing team in this exciting role.

In the heart of Buckinghamshire countryside, the Trust is located conveniently close to London and Oxford. We provide services to three main sites, Wycombe, Amersham and Stoke Mandeville. As a progressive department we continually look to develop our services and are committed to the development of our staff. We fully support CPD.

You will be responsible for managing the dispensary workload, labelling and dispensing medication for Inpatients, Outpatients, Controlled drugs and ensuring staff are supported and  trained to provide a safe service for our customers. You will work as part of the wider Pharmacy team to support and develop the pharmacy provision, maximising efficiency and provide excellent patient care.

Full training will be funded and provided by the trust for nationally recognised ACPT  and Medicines Optimisation courses.

 

Main duties of the job

  • To dispense inpatient, outpatient and discharge medication using a pharmacy computer and robotic system.
  • To dispense controlled drugs, unlicensed, cytotoxic and clinical trials medicines, keeping records according to departmental policy and legal requirements.
  • To organise and plan the supply of medicines to patients, wards and departments served by the Trust.
  • To develop and plan all section rotas and allocation of daily tasks as appropriate for all staff ensuring these are completed accurately and in a timely manner.
  • To carry out the final checking of dispensed items. To ensure that the daily stock check is completed and ensure all discrepancies are 
    resolved.
  • To ensure good stock management is carried out using JAC report functions.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • NVQ level 3 or Apprenticeship in Pharmacy Services
  • Registered with GPHC
Desirable criteria
  • ACPT Qualification
  • NVQ assessor or equivalent
  • Leadership or management course
  • Good communication, verbal and written

Knowledge and Experience

Essential criteria
  • Previous Hospital Pharmacy Experience
  • At least two years experience
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of Audits
  • Training other Pharmacy Staff
  • Experience of counselling patients
  • Able to manage and prioritise own workload
  • Work and communicate effectively
  • Ability to work alone or in a team
  • Experience of previous line management

  • Ability to work in an organised and calm fashion in a busy environment.
  • Be able to work on own initiative and be capable of making decisions.
  • Be able to delegate and co-ordinate other staff

  • The ability to identify the need for SOP’s and assist in the preparation and implementation of new ones.

  • To be prepared to develop a good understanding of management issues and be prepared to attend any training sessions necessary for development
  • Ability to work to standard operating procedures accurately in a timely fashion
