Job overview

We are looking for a dynamic and motivated pharmacist to manage, develop and deliver our education and training programmes to the pharmacy department and within the Trust. You will be the local Education Programme Director for the Postgraduate Diploma in General Pharmacy Practice as well as lead the education strategy for the department, including non-medical prescribing. In this key role for the department you will be part of the senior leadership team and develop our staff to deliver outstanding care to our patients. 

You will require a broad-range of clinical experience and be able to demonstrate a strong aptitude for interpersonal and leadership skills.

Main duties of the job

  • To develop a strategic plan to attract, train, develop and retain the pharmacy workforce at Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust.
  • To be responsible for the development and delivery of suitable education and training for all pharmacy staff.
  • To specifically manage, lead, strategically plan and co-ordinate both foundation level and advanced level training and development for registered pharmacists, providing expert guidance and support to other pharmacy staff. This will include use of the best available educational material and active clinical supervision in line with pharmacy educational and training required outcomes.
  • To develop career pathways for groups of staff i.e., pharmacist, technicians & assistants.
  • To embed the preceptorship programme department wide.
  • To provide quality assurance as necessary to Health Education England (HEE) and GPhC that foundation year training plans are in place, which enable trainee pharmacists and pre- registration pharmacy technicians to meet their required competencies with a support package for their tutors and supervisors to enable this goal.
  • To lead and develop clinical pharmacy audit and practice research within the specialist areas.
  • To be a key member of the Senior Pharmacy Leadership Team (SPLT), working with the Chief Pharmacist and Associate Directors of Pharmacy to review, refresh and deliver the strategic direction and development of the pharmacy service to meet the needs of the Trust.

Education

Essential criteria
  • Registered Pharmacist: Member of the GPhC
Desirable criteria
  • Member of the RPS
  • Post-graduate diploma in clinically pharmacy or recognised equivalent
  • Independent Prescribing qualification (or willing to study for this)
  • RPS faculty Stage II accreditation

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Extensive experience of hospital pharmacy at Post Registration Pharmacist level
  • Experience of project management
  • Experience of managing staff
  • Experience of conducting service audits and the use of performance indicators
  • Experience of teaching and tutoring
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of delivery of clinical pharmacy service to a specialist level
  • Experience of working at Directorate Pharmacist leve

  • Able to prioritise and manage own workload
