Job overview
Applications are welcomed for a full-time Locum Consultant in Obstetrics and Gynaecology to join a friendly team of 22 consultants serving our local Buckinghamshire population. We are delighted to offer this opportunity to a highly motivated, enthusiastic individual to work with multidisciplinary teams dedicated to the provision of high-quality care.
The successful candidate will be based at Stoke Mandeville Hospital with cross site working at Wycombe and Amersham Hospitals, participate in the on-call rota, run outpatient clinics and hysteroscopy. We would welcome running theatre sessions based on clinical experience of the candidate. The successful applicant will have a job plan based on 10 PAs and would be expected to enhance Gynaecology service and contribute towards Obstetrics. This a locum fixed term contracted opportunity for 12 months.
Applicants should be on the GMC Specialist Register.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will play an important part in day-to-day management of obstetric and gynaecological patients in the unit and will participate in the ‘hot week’ on labour ward . The post holder will run General Gynaecology outpatient clinics and outpatient hysteroscopy with specialist clinics based on clinical skills and experience.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Maintenance of the highest clinical standards in the management of Obstetrics and Gynaecology patients at all times.

To share with colleagues’ responsibility for the day-to-day management of Obstetrics and Gynaecology patients requiring admission, investigations, or surgery.

To undertake duties within the agreed job plan.

To actively participate in both departmental and Trust matters concerning Clinical Governance and audit.

To support with teaching and training of junior medical staff.

To have responsibility for ensuring active participation in continuing professional development (CPD).
Person specification
Qualifications
Essential criteria
- CCT in Obstetrics and Gynaecology and on GMC’s Specialist Register or have a written confirmation of eligibility for Specialist Registration.
- Higher postgraduate degree/s
- Current license to practice from GMC
- ATSM labour ward practice
- MRCOG or equivalent
Experience and Training
Essential criteria
- Clinical training and experience in general obstetrics and gynaecology equivalent to the required for a UK CCT
- Statement regarding appropriate training and experience including that relating to a specialist skills
- Evidence of experience in Gynaecological Surgery
Clinical Governance
Essential criteria
- Evidence of participation in clinical governance
- Able to support with clinical governance in practice and demonstrate understanding of governance principles
Desirable criteria
- Experience of supervising junior medical staff
Leading and Managing
Essential criteria
- Involvement in regional or national committees
- Able to communicate effectively with colleagues, patients, relatives, GPs, nurses and midwives
Desirable criteria
- Leading service development

You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
