Job overview

Applications are invited for the appointment to a substantive post as Consultant in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Buckinghamshire Hospitals NHS Trust based at Stoke Mandeville Hospital. The post will comprise 10 PA and non-resident on call.

We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual to join a friendly and progressive Obstetrics and Gynaecology department. The post has arisen consequent to consultant expansion, following a review of the service needs in light of recently published Maternity Safety Reports.

The post holder should have experience in Obstetrics with an interest in Obstetric Governance. They may also have additional experience in other specialist areas to meet the needs of the department.

Main duties of the job

The purpose of this post is to provide strong professional clinical leadership in Obstetrics to ensure excellence in care provision which is responsive to women and their family's needs.

The post holder will be the deputy governance lead who is responsible for overseeing the running from patient safety incidents, supporting PMRT, ensuring guidance is up to date, supporting the patient safety team, implementing quality improvement and ensuring adherence to national standards. This role will also include supporting multi professional training.

Support for personal and professional development and leadership training will be provided to allow you to further develop the services and provide high quality woman centred care.

As there is a gynaecological component to the job it would be desirable to have gynaecological skills to support this. The on-call component currently carries a mix of both components, but if obstetric only on call is desired, this may be negotiable.

The successful applicant will be expected to work at both Stoke Mandeville (SMH) and Wycombe Hospital (WH).
