Job overview

We are looking for an experienced and motivated Midwife to join our committed and dedicated Practice Development Team (PDT) at Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust.   As part of the PDT, you will facilitate in-house training days to meet the requirements of national agendas such as the Maternity incentive Scheme (MIS) and the Saving Babies Lives Care Bundle (SBLCB).  You will be part of the support network for our students, newly qualified midwives and international colleagues as well as wider members of the maternity and obstetric teams.

The post holder will promote and develop excellence in midwifery practice and enhance client care by effectively leading and developing the support, education, training and development of staff within the service. We are looking for a midwife who will be a positive role model and provide leadership and management to enable staff and service development.

Our new team member will provide a variety of  training days for members of the multi-disciplinary team including, health care assistants, nursery nurses, nurses, midwives from all departments, ODPs, theatre staff, Obstetricians and Anaesthetists.  We have some exciting new projects that we would love you to be a part of including developing the maternity training for our Ambulance teams and Paramedic colleagues.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be a highly motivated and experienced Midwife who will offer leadership, expert advice and continuous support to Midwives within the Maternity Services. 

Education - We are looking for a post-holder who is passionate about making maternity care at BHT outstanding.  They will support with in-house training days, providing confident and compassionate study days.  There will be the opportunity to be involved with service development projects.

The Post holder retention – work with midwifery colleagues to ensure that staff are supported during transition into the trust and are retained.  This role is an integral part of PDT and is key in the provision of clinical and professional advice ensuring optimal use of midwives’ skills to ensure a safe, supported workforce.

EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS & TRAINING

Essential criteria
  • Registered Midwife
  • Practice Assessor
  • Evidence of further continued professional development
  • Comprehensive post registration midwifery experience
Desirable criteria
  • Diploma or Degree
  • Professional Midwifery Advocate

EXPERIENCE

Essential criteria
  • Worked in all midwifery settings
  • At least two years recent labour ward experience
  • Experience of acting as mentor – coach – preceptor – practice supervisor / practice assessor
  • Experience of audit
  • Experience of risk management
  • Experience of teaching students, MCA’s, midwives and medical staff
  • Evidence of professional updating
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of research

SKILLS, ABILITIES & KNOWLEDGE
