Job overview

The Buckinghamshire Adult Speech and Language Therapy Team have an exciting opportunity for a motivated and dynamic therapist to join our voice service.   You will be joining a friendly, integrated adult SLT team working across Buckinghamshire, delivering high quality care.  

This part time post (15 hours per week) offers the opportunity to work collaboratively with ENT colleagues in a joint voice clinic; to work with the SLT team on developing our ‘SLT as 1st contact’ pathway and to extend knowledge and skills in assessment and management of voice disorders. 

The post holder will benefit from the opportunity for agile working as the service offers a blended model of face to face and remote delivery to meet the service users’ needs.  You may be required to work at Stoke Mandeville, Wycombe or Amersham hospital according to clinic locations, as well as opportunity to work from home at times.

We can offer training and development from within our team and this post could be considered as a band 6/band 7 development opportunity for the right person.  In this situation the post holder would be supported to complete competencies related to the management of voice disorders, to progress from a band 6 to a band 7.

 

Main duties of the job

The post holder will provide Speech and Language Therapy for voice patients across sites in Buckinghamshire. The post holder will:

  • Use specialist clinical skills to manage a specialist caseload
  • Identify, assess, and diagnose communication and swallowing impairments and select appropriate therapy for effective treatment.
  • Provide specialist input in a range of settings, primarily outpatient clinics and video clinics.
  • To act as an advisor, providing specialist knowledge to a wide range of professions and agencies within Buckinghamshire
  • Take students on placement for clinical teaching
  • Take responsibility for implementing service wide developments as appropriate

EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS & TRAINING

Essential criteria
  • Recognised Speech and Language Therapy Degree or Qualification Equivalent
  • Health and Care Professions Council Membership
  • Completion of accredited post graduate qualification in dysphagia or equivalent
Desirable criteria
  • Registered Member of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists
  • Evidence of successful completion of relevant specialist short courses
  • Membership of relevant specialist interest group/clinical excellence network

SKILLS, ABILITIES & KNOWLEDGE

Essential criteria
  • Well established knowledge of specialist SLT assessment and therapy tools relevant to a voice/ENT caseload
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of national policies and procedures relevant to SLT and voice disorders
  • Knowledge of the principles of clinical governance and quality measures
  • Knowledge of the roles of other professionals involved in the relevant areas of patient care
  • Working knowledge of MS office applications and hospital electronic patient records
  • Skills in naseondsocopy, voice clinics and instrumental swallowing assessments

EXPERIENCE

Essential criteria
  • A minimum of 4 years clinical experience as a specialist SLT in a relevant field
  • Experience working with patients who have voice disorders
  • Evidence of a high level of specialist knowledge/skills resulting from clinical experience and continuing professional development
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of the allocation of quality measures pertaining to SLT

SPECIAL CIRCUMSTANCES

Essential criteria
  • Ability to travel cross site as required and to work flexibly to offer remote consultations alongside face to face consultations as needed to deliver patient care
