Job overview

This includes Thame (Oxfordshire), Tring (Hertfordshire) and Leighton Buzzard (Bedfordshire). We provide care to over half a million patients every year. We have over 6,000 highly trained clinical staff. This includes doctors, nurses, midwives, health visitors, therapists, and healthcare scientists.

Amersham Hospital is one of several Community Hospitals within the Trust. We have three inpatient areas: Chartridge Ward, Waterside Unit, and Buckinghamshire Neuro Rehabilitation Unit. 

Waterside Unit has exciting opportunities for Band 5 Staff Nurses to join their team. This post would be suitable for newly qualified nurses, those due to qualify in the near future, or individuals who already have post-registration experience. Where relevant, we will support you to undertake our Trust Preceptorship programme, offering you the structured support needed to transition your knowledge into everyday practice successfully. 

Waterside Unit is a 21 bedded ward within the Integrated Elderly Care Division. We provide inpatient rehabilitation for older adults working closely with our therapy team until ready for discharge home with support or a placement in a Nursing or Residential Home. Our patients often have multiple health needs & chronic conditions.

Main duties of the job

  • Identifying the needs for nursing care of individual patients in the context of prescribed medical care.
  • Undertakes the nursing assessment of the patient, including risk assessments, e.g. Tissue viability, falls etc. and re-evaluates.
  • Planning and delivering an individual programme of nursing care for each patient, incorporating objectives, and re-evaluates.
  • Supervising qualified / unqualified staff, to ensure the optimum application of skills necessary to provide the care planned for each patient.
  • Recording nursing care given and evaluating its outcome in relation to achievement of objectives; modifying care plans accordingly.
  • Acts as a health educator throughout the patients stay.
  • Responds sensitively to the needs of patients families and visitors

  • To be able to communicate effectively with patients, relatives, carers and other professionals.
