Job overview
An exciting opportunity has a arisen for x2 full-time Band 8a Matron, based at Weston General Hospital.
This post provides strong leadership, visible and credible senior nursing presence. Accessible to staff, patients, and their families the post holder provides senior level advice, assistance, and support. The post holder will be accountable for the delivery of optimum quality patient care across their agreed portfolio of services and areas of responsibility, and in line with the ten key Matron responsibilities outlined nationally.
The post holder will ensure that the services provided are responsive to patient needs, that the planning of services involves patients and users, and reflects the diverse population served. You will also work closely with Matrons, Director of Nursing, Deputy Director of Quality and colleagues across Weston General Hospital and wider Trust.
There are two positions available :
1. full-time, permanent contract
2. full time, 9 month fixed-term contract (ending in April 2025)

Main duties of the job

- Leading by example
- Ensuring patients get quality care (positive patient experience, effective nursing care, patient safety)
- Ensuring staffing is appropriate to patient need
- Empowering nurses to take on a wider range of clinical activities
- Improving hospital cleanliness
- Ensuring patients’ nutritional needs are met
- Improving wards for patients
- Making sure patients are treated with respect and dignity
- Preventing hospital acquired infections
- Resolving problems for patients and their relatives

- RGN.1st Level qualification
- Current NMC Registration
- Master’s Degree or equivalent, or willingness to work towards

- Route Cause Analysis & Clinical Governance
Desirable criteria
- Leadership/Management Course
- IOSH (or similar) Course
