Job overview

We are currently seeking Book Service Volunteers to provide a book and magazine service to adult patients on wards. This will include  older patients and those with a dementia or cognitive impairment. 

Main duties of the job

  • Providing a book trolley service to patients, engaging in social interaction, particularly for older patients and those with a dementia or cognitive impairment.
  • Visiting designated wards with the book trolley.
  • Providing in-patients with reading material such as books or magazines.
  • Providing activities pack to patients on request.
  • Providing boredom buster paper to patients.
  • Supporting patients and helping them decide on reading material.
  • Ensuring all reading material returned from wards is appropriately cleaned and stored in the Book Service room.
  • Rotate book and magazine stock on book trolley to ensure a non-repetitive selection
  • Restock trolley with activity packs from the Volunteer Hub.
  • Ensure all new books are cleaned, labelled and stored in alphabetical order following quarantine period
