We are looking for an enthusiastic and dynamic specialty doctor to join our Obstetrics and Gynaecology team. We are looking for an individual who would be able to take up this post from August 2025.

The maternity department is one of the largest in the country, with more than 6000 deliveries per annum with a 15 bed Consultant led delivery suite, a co-located birth unit and a stand-alone birth centre at Cossham Hospital. NBT is the host of the South West Maternal Medicine Network and the South West Placenta Spectrum Disorder Service. We have an active fetal medicine department and tertiary level 3 neonatal unit. We are the home of PROMPT, PRactical Obstetric Multi-Professional Training, which is used in many hospitals in the UK and worldwide. 

Our large gynaecology department undertake 12 gynaecological outpatient clinics, 7 specialist gynaecology clinics and 18 gynaecology theatre lists per week in a dedicated gynaecology theatre suite. We have pioneered the use of ultrasound scanning in the Gynaecology clinics, helping to streamline patient management. We have an excellent early pregnancy clinic run by nurse practitioners and sonographers with support from the medical team. For emergency gynaecology, we provide a 5 day a week emergency gynaecology clinic with dedicated ultrasound available. In ambulatory gynaecology we have regular colposcopy and outpatient hysteroscopy (diagnostic and treatment). We provide MVA for miscarriage in the outpatient setting.

Main duties of the job

Full Registration with the GMC is essential.  The post is based at Southmead Hospital. The Trust has teaching status and is linked with the University of Bristol and the University of the West of England. 

Experience and familiarity with UK hospital systems and practices or equivalent via MRCOG is essential.
