Job overview

A truly exciting opportunity has arisen for a band 6 Stoma Care Nurse Specialist to join the award winning team in Bristol and Weston.

The opportunity is open to a registered nurse with a passion for stoma care; previous experience is preferable but not essential, although knowledge and experience of surgical nursing in a colorectal field is advisable.

We are a close, supportive team in a large inner city teaching hospital and work across multiple sites delivering excellent specialist stoma care nursing for inpatients, patients in a smaller hospital, in clinics and in the patient’s own homes.

We are focused on delivery of expert care, practice based in evidence, and the pursuit of research, development and raising the profile nationally of the specialism in support of nursing and the patients we care for. We are able to give our patients the time and input they deserve and which enhances our feeling of worth and enjoyment at work.

We are an award winning team and you would be supported to learn, develop and achieve and would have the opportunity to contribute to the development of excellence in this area. There is scope for real professional development and experience in a specialist field with interesting ‘cases’ and varied ways of working as well as involvement in key projects that further the stoma care nursing role.

Main duties of the job

Training and education will be available , ample opportunity to enhance and develop your skills, learning and professional scope.

The successful candidate would have recent, relevant clinical experience of caring for patients with a stoma and demonstrate a real passion for the specialism as well as excellent nursing skills, experience and education in their current post. This is a real chance to explore a new specialism and develop professionally for the right candidate.

You will be an integral part of the team providing continued care from hospital to home and beyond, providing pre-operative counselling and siting, post-operative ward teaching, discharge planning, and follow up outpatient nurse-led clinics. The role will involve working in close partnership with patients, their families and the Multidisciplinary Teams in the hospital trust and community, providing evidence based, compassionate, expert stoma nursing care. You will be well supported and encouraged towards developing new skills and education in this specialist area.

Driving licence an advantage for role.
