Job overview

Applications are invited for an up to 10 PA substantive consultant post in Paediatric Respiratory Medicine. We are looking for an enthusiastic colleague to join our friendly consultant team. The post is based at Bristol Royal Hospital for Children (BRHC). It will expand the clinical complement in respiratory paediatrics to five consultants. This is an exciting progression which will permit subspecialisation and opportunity to develop the individual components of the respiratory service according to the interests of the post-holder and current consultants.

The hospital provides a respiratory service to the children of Bristol, South Gloucestershire & North Somerset and specialised service for children across the South West of England with some supra-regional referrals. We offer a full tertiary paediatric respiratory service with specialist clinics in airway disorders, primary ciliary dyskinesia, severe asthma and long term ventilation.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will take an equal share in the consultant of the week attending rota in paediatric respiratory medicine, contribute to cystic fibrosis and respiratory clinics, perform bronchoscopy on elective and emergency lists, and share in the sleep diagnostic service. During attending service weeks, the post holder will see the inpatients under the care of the paediatric respiratory medicine team as well as accepting and assessing referrals from other specialty teams within the hospital and from general paediatric teams from throughout the South West. In addition, the post holder will contribute to the second on call weekend rota, involving ward rounds of specialty patients on Saturday and Sunday, and there is a small contribution to the out of hours acute general paediatric consultant rota.

Applicants will be required to have specialist registration on GMC register for Paediatric Respiratory Medicine or equivalent or to be within 6 months of CCT in Paediatric Respiratory Medicine.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
