The post holder is responsible for the leadership, development, control and maintenance of an efficient and effective quality management system across our consolidated department.
Will act as the designated Professional Manager for ISO accreditation purposes and be the lead Biomedical Scientist for the implementation of ISO standards, acting as a focus for guidance and advice.
Will have the skills and ability to manage the quality system with the objective of ensuring the continual improvement and that the service meets regulatory and accreditation requirements.
Will ensure effective mechanisms are defined and in operation across BCPS and all partner trusts to promote quality between the laboratory and service users.
Will drive the QMS forward within the department and wider BCPS to ensure the service is fit for purpose now and in the future.

Lead and develop all aspects of the quality management system within BCPS Microbiology.
Assist in the management of resources (staff, equipment, consumables and premises), with a view to achieving optimum quality and efficiency.
Communicates highly complex scientific and managerial information to clinical colleagues, senior managers, pathology personnel and support staff.
Responsible for making judgemental and analytical decisions required to effectively manage the departmental quality management system and associated laboratory processes including service delivery, user needs and requirements, organisational operation, quality assurance, risk management and staffing issues.
Monitor effectiveness and timeliness of remedial, corrective and preventative actions, objectives and audits. Report outcome and recommendations to senior managers as required.
Respond positively to the changing demand on the service, through innovation, communication, setting standards and achieving results.
Deputise for the Service Lead and other Operational Managers in their absence.

Administrator of the QMS software system and responsible for its design, implementation and ongoing development. Manages the QMS software database including data entry, archiving of records, and managing retention of records in line with policies and procedures.
Administrator of the stock management system, responsible for its design, implementation and ongoing development. Manages the stock management database. Manage risks across the department utilising the Partner Trusts risk management software systems (Datix and Safeguard) as appropriate. Develop and co-ordinate as Health and Safety system for review and management of risks within the BCPS (closure of incidents, trend analysis) and escalation to appropriate Partner Trust and external agencies as required.
Ensures the department complies with Data Protection requirements for the safe, secure and confidential processing and retention of patient and other pathology information.
Uses spreadsheets and databases for the manipulation of data, extracting and using computer generated information to prepare and present reports (written, presentations).
Responsible for the extraction, monitoring and review of non-compliant pathology requests and feedback to users.
Provides professional leadership to all scientific and support staff encouraging development, monitoring standards and implementing change.
Leads by example and in a manner that will encourage the implementation and development of the quality management system across the BCPS using negation and persuasive skills to encourage staffs development.
