Working for our organisation

Intensive Care Unit:  At The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust, we pride ourselves on providing exceptional patient care and fostering a collaborative and supportive work environment. Our General Intensive Care Unit (ICU) is an Integrated Critical Care unit with 30 beds shared with Cardiac Intensive Care, catering to over 1000 patients annually. The recent appointment of a Professor of Intensive Care Medicine has opened up exciting opportunities for undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and research in Intensive Care Medicine, Anaesthesia, Perioperative Care Medicine, Data Sciences, Clinical trials (Phase 2 and 3) and Acute Care Medicine. We are also establishing a Level 1 Unit under the management of Consultant Intensivists. The additional investment includes 8-person ACCP Rota and four dedicated ICU CESR Fellows.
Acute Medicine Unit: Adjacent to our ICU is our purpose-built Acute Medicine Unit, which consists of 49 beds with an average of 50 admissions per day. Led by 10 Acute Physicians, our multidisciplinary team delivers high-quality care and is renowned for its excellence. We host nationally recognized MRCP PACES courses and consistently receive high scores in GMC trainee surveys, making us the preferred choice for medical professionals.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Responsibilities for a senior clinician include the full range of activities routinely undertaken in assessing and managing acutely unwell medical patients.

Alongside covering our acute medical unit, we also provide acute physician cover to our emergency department and work closely alongside our physician colleagues to manage the acute medical take.

Our well established innovative ‘Physician A & B’ model ensures that there is an acute physician working alongside our emergency medicine colleagues at the front door 14 hours a day, 7 days a week.

The requirement to be part of this team is on a 1:12 day basis.

This post has on call responsibilities for ICU and so the successful candidate would not be expected to participate in this 1:12 rota
