Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust provides integrated acute and community Healthcare in the West Midlands serving a population of 260,000 residents. Walsall Manor Hospital houses the full range of district general hospital services. The £170 million development was completed in 2010 and we are continually upgrading. Construction of the new integrated critical care unit was completed in 2018, extension of a Neonatal Unit and an approved plan to build a brand new, state of the art Emergency Department which commenced in 2021

We provide high quality, friendly and effective community health services from multiple sites covering Walsall. Our multidisciplinary services include rapid response and homebased care, so that those with long term conditions and the frail elderly can remain in their own homes.

Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen in the Imaging Department in Walsall to cover the role of a Radiology Service Manager. 

The post holder will be responsible for the operational management, leadership and coordination of the daily activities and planning of Radiology services to ensure the delivery of a high-quality responsive service which meets the needs of the Trust and the Community. 

Walsall is a large market town located in the Black Country and within easy reach of Birmingham and rural Staffordshire.

Main duties of the job

Responsible for the operational management, leadership and coordination of the daily activities and planning of Radiology services to ensure the delivery of a high-quality responsive service which meets the needs of the Trust and the Community.

 The post holder will be responsible for the budget and physical resources within Imaging and will be expected to respond to unpredictable workloads and patterns.

 The post holder will promote Trust values ensuring adherence to all policies and procedures. Responsible for the operational management and strategic planning of the Radiology Service Line, accountable to the Divisional Director.

 Responsibility for oversight of IR(ME)R and IRR regulations ensuring that radiation is used safely to protect patients from the risk of harm when being exposed to ionising radiation.

 Responsible for overseeing Radiation Safety Policies and procedures within the organisation and chairing the relevant radiation safety groups ensuring robust governance and assurance to Trust Board

Responsible for clinical governance ensuring a safe and effective service for patients and staff. Responsible for the delivery of service performance indicators and national targets. Work with AHP leads to actively raising the profile of AHPs across the Trust, driving forward service improvements and increasing the profile of their work.

 Provide expertise and advice on all imaging modalities, with an up-to-date knowledge of all types of imaging equipment.

  • BSc or DCR in Diagnostic Radiography
  • Achievement of master’s qualification in a relevant discipline or equivalent level training/experience
  • HCPC registration

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Significant experience in staff management experience, including recruitment & retention, performance management and grievance/ disciplinary procedures
  • Experience of operational budgetary control, ordering and procurement processes
  • Demonstrates a firm understanding of the patient experience agenda, including evidence of utilizing a variety of data to positively improve their experience.

Knowledge and skills

Essential criteria
  • Significant experience of successful change management and service redesign
  • Clear and demonstrable understanding of the performance management agenda for the speciality.
  • Full understanding of the speciality monitoring frameworks and the NHS organisations reporting obligations and their contribution to ensuring the organisation meets them.
  • Evidence of experience of clinical governance, risk management and service improvement.
