Walsall Manor Hospital houses the full range of district general hospital services. The £170 million development was completed in 2010 and we are continually upgrading. Construction of the new integrated critical care unit was completed in 2018, extension of a Neonatal Unit and an approved plan to build a brand new, state of the art Emergency Department which commenced in 2021

Job overview
We are seeking an enthusiastic Dietitian with an interest in paediatrics to join our team of 18 dietitians, nurse, and admin who work across the acute and community setting.
If successful, you will be responsible for dietetic input into our children’s wards along with carrying out a number of paediatric dietetic outpatient clinics. including a MDT diabetes clinic. Although this post does require face to face contact with patients, there will be opportunities for some remote working and flexible hours across Monday- Friday.

Main duties of the job
To provide a nutrition and dietetic service to paediatric patients in both an in and outpatient setting, cs. Inpatient areas include the general paediatric ward, assessment unit and neonatal unit and may be in a 1:1 or group setting. Clinics will include those children referred for advice regarding faltering growth, allergies , restricted eating and coeliac disease, along with a multidisciplinary Paediatric diabetes clinic

Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust is an integrated Trust and the only provider of NHS acute care in Walsall, serving a population of 286,700, providing inpatient and outpatient services at the Manor Hospital as well as a wide range of services in the community. Walsall Manor houses the full range of district general hospital services under one roof. The £170 million development was completed in 2010 and the continued upgrading of existing areas ensures the Trust now has a state-of-the-art Critical Care Unit, Neonatal Unit, Obstetric Theatre, and Integrated Assessment Unit facilities. Work is also well underway on its multi-million pound new Urgent and Emergency Care Centre which will house a new Emergency Department (including Children’s Emergency Department), co-located Paediatric Assessment Unit, Acute Medical Unit and Urgent Care Centre. This is scheduled for completion this year.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Provide a nutrition and dietetic service to Paediatric patients in both an in and outpatient setting. Inpatient areas include the general Paediatric ward, assessment unit and neonatal unit and may be in a 1:1 or group setting.
Provide dietetic input into a multidisciplinary Paediatric diabetes clinic
Plan and prioritise own workload as an autonomous practitioner
Be responsible for collection and analysis of relevant data followed by planning and recommendation of dietetic care within the case load as an autonomous practitioner
Translate and communicate information about disease states and diet to patients and carers so that it is understandable and empowering. This will require developed counselling, motivational and negotiation skills.
Be responsible for ensuring communication of patient management to all relevant health professionals and carers.
Work as part of the multidisciplinary team, liaising with other professionals as required and attending meetings and case conferences as appropriate.
Advise catering services in the hospital on the provision of special diets and menu planning.
Maintain the service to meet department standards in accordance with the available evidence.
Undertake additional training as required to meet the needs of the post
Have an active involvement in student training
Deliver services in a flexible manner with regard to working hours and locations
