Job overview
We are seeking to appoint a full time Specialty Doctor to work in the department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology to commence as soon as possible for maternity leave cover
The successful candidate must possess full GMC Registration with a Licence to Practice; a basic medical degree (eg. MBBS/MBChB or equivalent), MRCOG Part 1 and a minimum of 3 years middle grade experience in Obstetrics & Gynaecology in the NHS. MRCOG part 2 and 3 are no essential but are desirable.
Full MRCOG (or equivalent) is desirable.
The post holder will be expected to work at Middle Grade level and be required to participate on the full shift Middle Grade on-call rota witth a 1:10 rota pattern, therefore previous on-call experience at this level would be advantageous.
Skills in instrumental deliveries and caesarean section and surgical management of miscarriage at basic levels are required competencies.
Applicants should be aware that regardless of Country of Origin, their ability to communicate in written and spoken English to the standard required to carry out the post, will be assessed during the selection process.
Main duties of the job
This is a Trust Middle Grade post in the department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology department. The post holder will participate in a full shift middle grade on-call rota. Duties include second on-call for delivery suite and gynaecological emergencies, attending theatres and antenatal and gynaecology clinics. The rota will be set to 1:10 comprising of weekday and weekend on calls for both nights and day shifts.
The post holder must possess Part 1 Membership of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (or equivalent) and have middle grade experience in Obstetrics and Gynaecology in the NHS. A minimum of 3 years at ST3 or above is desirable.
The post will be offered for 6 months.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Facilities comprise of a 13-bedded inpatient facility on Ward 23. We have a Gynaecology Assessment Unit (GAU) where an ultrasound scan machine is available for emergency patients. Procedures such as manual vacuum aspiration, incision and drainage of Bartholin’s abscess with Words catheter are available. Early Pregnancy Assessment service is available from Monday to Friday. Gynaecology theatre suite comprises of two operating theatres (12 and 14) complete with anaesthetic and recovery areas and is situated within the new build. We perform minimal access surgery, open surgery, urogynaecological procedures and hysteroscopic procedures in theatre.
A Gynaecology outpatients unit is situated within the new hospital building. Specialty clinics (ambulatory, colposcopy, one-stop and urodynamics) and general outpatient clinics are sited within this facility. Specialist interests include oncology, colposcopy, urogynaecology, subfertility, postmenopausal bleeding (one-stop) and hysteroscopic procedures
OBSTETRICS
The Maternity Wing houses maternity triage unit, delivery suite, antenatal and postnatal ward, transitional care, neonatal unit and medical and midwifery management offices. Antenatal Clinic and Fetal Assessment Unit (FAU) are situated within the new building. Special interest clinics include joint diabetic clinic, epilepsy, haematology, HIV, twins and VBAC clinic. There is a full range of modern equipment with 10 ultrasound-scan sessions. CTG monitoring, including computerised CTG, is available on FAU, maternity triage, delivery suite and antenatal wards.
Antenatal care is provided under consultant led care, midwifery led care and shared care. Delivery can be offered at the Midwifery-Led Unit (MLU) or delivery suite depending on risk assessment. MLU is half a mile from the main hospital and is run by dedicated MLU midwives. On delivery suite, there are nine delivery rooms, four bedded bay for induction of labour, two bereavements rooms, two maternity theatres and recovery areas. Delivery rooms consist of low technology delivery room, high risk delivery rooms, room for enhanced maternity care and a twin delivery room/ back up theatre.
There are two maternity wards - 20 bed Primrose ward and 12 bed Foxglove ward.
Elective Caesarean Sections are performed on Tuesdays and Thursdays in Theatre 14. Detailed scans and procedures such as amniocentesis are performed in fetal medicine suite.
