Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust provides integrated acute and community Healthcare in the West Midlands serving a population of 260,000 residents. Walsall Manor Hospital houses the full range of district general hospital services. The £170 million development was completed in 2010 and we are continually upgrading. Construction of the new integrated critical care unit was completed in 2018, extension of a Neonatal Unit and an approved plan to build a brand new, state of the art Emergency Department which commenced in 2021

Band 5 Paediatric Registered Nurse – Emergency Department
We have an exciting opportunity for Band 5 Paediatric Staff nurses to join our supportive and motivated team of fantastic paediatric nurses in the Emergency Department.
Are you a NMC registered Paediatric Nurse looking for a new challenge?
The department is supported by designated Practice Development Nurses and a dynamic team of Clinical Practitioners who will support you in developing your knowledge and skills including PILS, NLS, EPALS, Cannulation & Phlebotomy, Plastering, Wound care and minor injuries
We have recently opened our new urgent and emergency care treatment centre which has included a co-located Paediatric assessment unit. This is a great benefit to our children attending ED, we have a close working relationship offering enhanced support.
Main duties of the job
To provide the highest standard of assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care as required within the Emergency
Departments Paediatric Service.
Demonstrate effective communication skills both verbal and non verbal
Is able to identify the psychological, social, physical and cultural needs of
children and their families and acts, with guidance, to meet their needs.
Works in partnership with patients and their carers in decision making,
ensuring their views are taken into account.
Is able to recognise own limitations to practice guided by the NMC Code
Conduct, Scope of Professional Practice, Trust Policies and Procedures
Demonstrate high standards in record keeping.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
To provide the highest standard of assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care as required within the Emergency
Departments Paediatric Service.
- To utilise a variety of strategies to communicate effectively with the children and their family/carers, the multidisciplinary team, other departments within the Trust and pertinent agencies outside the organisation.
- To deliver the above will require a general understanding and knowledge base of children’s health needs.
- May take responsibility for a specific area of responsibility within the Emergency Department during a span of duty in the absence of more senior staff. May not require direct supervision (dependent on experience)

QUALIFICATIONS
Essential criteria
- RSCN or RN (Child)
Desirable criteria
- previous experience with looking after acutely unwell children
EXPERIENCE
Essential criteria
- Recent acute paediatric nursing experience
Desirable criteria
- experience working within the emergency department
SKILLS
Essential criteria
- Up to date paediatric and adult basic life support
