Nursing Associate in the Childrens Community Nursing Team.

Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust provides integrated acute and community Healthcare in the West Midlands serving a population of 260,000 residents. Walsall Manor Hospital houses the full range of district general hospital services. The £170 million development was completed in 2010 and we are continually upgrading. Construction of the new integrated critical care unit was completed in 2018, extension of a Neonatal Unit and an approved plan to build a brand new, state of the art Emergency Department which commenced in 2021

Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust Community Children's Nursing Team are looking to recruit a dynamic and enthusiastic Band 4 Nursing Associate to work within a team of Nurses, supporting children within the special schools of Walsall and Children/young people requiring nursing intervention at home.
You will need excellent communication and clinical skills and have experience of working within a team; you will be required to use electronic patient record systems, in addition to this you will have good time management and be able to prioritise your own work load.
Be prepared to increase clinical skills and support the wider Paediatric department as required.
The post holder would be expected to work flexibly as required through a Monday-Friday service.

The £170 million development was completed in 2010 and the continued upgrading of existing areas ensures the Trust now has a state-of-the-art Critical Care Unit, Neonatal Unit, Obstetric Theatre, and Integrated Assessment Unit facilities. A multi-million pound new Urgent and Emergency Care Centre housing a new Emergency Department (including Children's Emergency Department), co-located Paediatric Assessment Unit, Acute Medical Unit and Urgent Care Centre has opened in March 2023.

- Work as part of a designated clinical and care team delivering care to children and young people with additional needs, disabilities, long term conditions, life limiting and life threatening conditions, and their families in Walsall special schools.
- To participate in the care of named children, to meet their physical and emotional needs, and undertake delivery of care plans.
- To give support and guidance to parents in the delivery of planned care.
- To work in partnership with parents and appropriate agencies and organisations to ensure the delivery of care for their child.
- Develop understanding of all elements of the nursing process and be able to assist the registered nurse in the ongoing assessment, planning, management and evaluation of care
- To recognise changes in a patients’ condition which require the intervention of others and understand when to refer to the supervising registered nurse or paediatric Community consultant and other senior colleagues for reassessment of patient care.
- To perform procedures as detailed within the NMC Standards for proficiency for Nurse Associate (2018) (Annexe B) to meet the nursing needs of the patients in their care
- To work within the NMC code of professional practice, and within policies, procedures and guidelines of Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust
- To have a willingness to undertake additional skills and training dependant on department requirements.
- To ensure that high standards of nursing care are provided and maintained. To act and raise concerns when standards are not being maintained following local policy and procedures.
- To act as an advocate for the patient and the family, including promoting and protecting their interests, privacy and rights, equality and inclusion.
- To be involved in Trust Initiatives to improve patient safety and care
