Job overview

This is a full time Consultant post (10 PA) in Paediatrics based at Russells Hall Hospital.

Our team of highly motivated Consultants and Doctors span a vast range of specialties. You will work within a well-supported and multi-disciplined team, ensuring you reach your full potential. Our hospital is forward looking and well equipped, providing you with the very best environment to work in. 

New appointees will join a team of 12 Consultants, 12 middle grades, 16 lower grades and 3 ANNP’s in an integrated multi-professional model of care.  The paediatric department at Dudley is renowned for its friendly atmosphere, good working relationships and an enthusiasm for teaching and training. There are well-developed links with tertiary units at Birmingham Children’s Hospital and in London with several specialist outreach clinics.  We would welcome applicants with an established special interest.  Additionally, candidates who wish to develop an interest in a paediatric sub-speciality will be supported to undertake SPIN modules in conjunction with Birmingham Children’s Hospital

The department is planning to expand further in both acute and community paediatric services.  The successful candidates will have an opportunity to contribute to the planning and redesign of paediatric services.  The future paediatric strategy is to split the neonatal and acute paediatric rotas

 

Main duties of the job

This is a non-resident post with current on-call commitments for acute paediatrics and neonates on a 1 in 9 basis, 5% supplement.  With the recruitment of additional Consultants will look to decrease the frequency.  To support the on-call Consultant there are 2 Registrar’s and 2 SHO’s/ ANNP’s resident on-site overnight. 

A minimum of 3 clinics per week (roughly 25% general and 75% specialty - actual numbers may change).

Clinics will be be proportionately reduced to account for any theatre PAs.#

To work collaboratively with Acute and Community Consultant Paediatrician colleagues in developing out-reach paediatric services, facilitating collaborative working and promoting the philosophy of an integrated child health service.

Provide clinical leadership.

Has a responsibility for teaching / training and educational supervision.

Sets standards of clinical care.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • MBBS or equivalent
  • MRCPCH (by examination) or equivalent

Registration

Essential criteria
  • Full GMC registration with a licence to practice
  • On GMC Specialist Register for General Paediatrics with full registration or proposed date of CCT must be within 6 months of interview

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Extensive experience if working in the speciality with evidence of competencies in line with the specialist curriculum
  • Ability to take full and independent responsibility for the care of patients and offer expert clinical opinion in the speciality
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of teaching special clinical skills
