We need a CSW that is skilled to band 3 level, who thrives on working in a very busy and challenging area, who is passionate about the contribution they make to safe compassionate patient care, their working environment and their colleagues. This role will enable the successful employee to work alongside the nursing team, enabling delivery of safe efficient care.
The Ophthalmology Department desires to encourage and support staff to be the best they can be; we offer excellent staff development, opportunity for career progression, brilliant team working environments and opportunity to be part of Quality Improvement initiatives.
This is a possible training opportunity as successful candidate will be required to complete level 3 qualification within 12-18 months. Post will be banded at Band 2 until completion of NVQ and competencies rising to Band 3 Higher Clinical Support Worker.
Main duties of the job
The Clinical Support Worker will work together with the members of the nursing team to provide a high standard of care to patients. He / she will be competent to undertake and record designated observations and clinical procedures, teach aspects of patient education, support the registered nurse in admission and discharge of patients, input data into the IT system and ensure equipment is available and ready for use by the nursing team.
The post holder will be assessed on appointment on their level of competence and required as part of the Trusts training and development programme for clinical support workers to undertake a structured pathway of development to include basic skills and in house development programme.

Qualifications and Education
Essential criteria
- Maths and English in one of the following: O Level grade A to C or CSE grade 1 or GCSE grade A to C or GCSE grade 9 to 4 or Functional skills level 2
- NVQ Level 2 in Health Care
Desirable criteria
- NVQ 3 Level 3 in Health Care
Experience
Essential criteria
- Relevant recent Clinical Support Worker experience in an acute hospital setting
Communication and Relationship Skills
Essential criteria
- Effective communication skills, oral and written
- Demonstrates a caring attitude to patient care
