Job overview

Intermediate care will provide the post holder with the opportunity to deliver a high standard of rehabilitation through occupational therapy interventions to patients in intermediate care in various bed-based units across the Dudley Borough. The post holder will be responsible for assessing and treating patients with a wide range of clinical needs and conditions, including orthopaedic, neurological, medical and surgical, as well as frail elderly co-morbidities. The post holder is required to work as part of a team committed to delivering and improving high standards of therapy within Dudley group NHS Foundation Trust. 

Main duties of the job

To work as part of the intermediate care pathway, providing effective and efficient occupational therapy to patients with a variety of physical conditions as part of an MDT. Duties will include, assessment, therapy (both group and/or individual as appropriate), developing tailored therapy programmes through to discharge, as well as appropriate delegation of work to assistants. The post holder will take responsibility for caseload holders in their absence, working autonomously across various ICT units, using evidence based/client centred principals to assess, plan, treat and evaluate interventions. The role will include deputising in team leads absence where appropriate, management of the work area, including supervision and development of junior staff and students.

Qualifications & Education

Essential criteria
  • Diploma / degree in Occupational Therapy
  • Registered with HCPC
Desirable criteria
  • Practice Educators qualification

Knowledge and Training

Essential criteria
  • Good knowledge of current best practice of in care of the elderly, rehabilitation, falls and clinical guidelines
  • Good knowledge of National guidelines for intermediate care
  • Good knowledge of IT systems i.e. Microsoft word, excel, PowerPoint etc
  • Evidence of post grad training
  • Commitment to lifelong learning

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Completed junior rotations in core areas or equivalent rehabilitation experience across a variety of clinical settings.
  • Experience of working with physically impaired patients
Desirable criteria
  • Experience at band 6 level
  • Experience of working in the community
  • Supervision of junior staff and students
  • Experience of clinical audit
