Job overview

The Royal Orthopaedic Hospital NHS Foundation Trust (ROH NHS FT) is the largest provider of elective orthopaedic surgery in the UK and provides routine and specialist orthopaedic services. It is also the leading specialist centre for bone and soft tissue cancers and provides a regional spinal service.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a friendly and dynamic senior pharmacy team at ROH NHS FT. The post holder will be responsible for the delivery of a high quality and clinically robust service to wards and other clinical areas, with a focus on achieving clinical excellence. The post holder will help develop and deliver new and innovative  clinical services.

The pharmacy service has undergone a major service transformation with the relocation of the department to a newly refurbished space including a brand new Omnicell robot, trustwide EPMA and automation across all inpatient wards. This is a great time to join a forward-thinking senior pharmacy management team and make a difference in shaping the service for the future. The successful candidate will lead improvements through  service evaluation and representation at various Trust forums to drive the service forward. Moreover, you will mentor and provide line management to a growing number of Foundation pharmacists and clinical pharmacists.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will help develop the pharmacy service in line with the aspirations of the Pharmacy Department, the Division and the Trust.

As a highly specialist clinical pharmacist the post holder will be responsible for:

  1. To lead and deliver the day-to-day clinical pharmacy service to surgical wards through a team approach across the service.  To develop a comprehensive set of Clinical Pharmacy KPI’s to provide assurance on the quality and effectiveness of the clinical pharmacy service within pharmacy and to the wider trust.
  2. Developing, co-ordinating and participating in the post qualification training of pharmacists in liaison with the Lead Pharmacist-Education and Training. Including developing a departmental strategy towards advanced pharmacist practice.
  3. To help develop a culture of excellence through exemplar leadership, supervision and mentoring to Foundation Year Pharmacists, Band 6/7 Clinical Pharmacists and medicines management technicians.
  4. To support the Chief and Deputy Chief Pharmacists in the development and implementation of the Trust’s Medicines policies, systems and processes through appropriate representation at various internal and external forums.
  5. To support the Medication Safety Officer and Medication Safety Lead Pharmacist in addressing the safety agenda in relation to medicines across the Trust and hence minimising risk to patients.
  6. Providing supervision to pharmacist prescribers, trainee prescribers and acting as DPP where appropriate.
