Job overview

We have a new and exciting opportunity for the right candidate to train with us as a Pre-Registration Trainee Pharmacy Technician.

 Pharmacy Technicians work in a variety of settings and play an important role in supporting patients with their medicines. They undertake a wide range of duties which can include dispensing and accuracy checking of prescribed items, taking a medication history from patients, procurement and issue of medicines.

Are you enthusiastic, motivated, and interested in developing a career in Pharmacy leading to professional registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council? This is a fantastic opportunity to undertake a formal qualification whilst learning in the workplace as part of a 2 year fixed term contract.

Main duties of the job

Successful applicants may also have the opportunity to obtain a cross sector placement. This means that you will not only be gaining an extensive understanding of Pharmacy in an acute hospital setting at City and Sandwell Hospitals, but you may also be placed with our primary care team for part of your training.

You will be required to complete the Level 3 Diploma in the Principles and Practice for Pharmacy Technicians with Walsall College. This will be delivered via a blended learning approach of either online sessions or attendance in person at college for 1 day per week.

You will rotate through different areas of Pharmacy gaining evidence of competency to contribute towards your overall qualification.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

To apply for the post you will require GCSE grade C/4 or above in English, Maths and Science plus 3 other subjects at a minimum of grade C/4.

Applicants with a Pharmacy Services Level 2 qualification (or equivalent) with current pharmacy experience who also hold functional skills level 2 (or equivalent) in Maths and English will be considered.

Those with higher level qualifications in science or humanities must also have evidence of GCSE Maths at grade C/4 or above.

Certificates for all required qualifications must be seen at interview.

You will have good attention to detail and a high level of accuracy. Basic IT skills and good communication and interpersonal skills are essential.
