Job overview
The post holder will work cross site to lead on the safe administration of BCG vaccine of babies up to the age of 12 months in the maternity unit, and will ensure there is onward referral to TB nurse as appropriate.
They will also lead on the administration of flu and pertussis vaccines in pregnant women. The post holder will manage and prioritise their own workload, whilst working without direct supervision. The post holder will need to demonstrate good personal communication skills and actively promote excellent team and interdisciplinary relationships.
The post holder will be expected to demonstrate concise, accurate, timely record keeping and provide skilled, evidence-based care which adheres to agreed Trust policies and procedures.
Main duties of the job
Maximise opportunities for health promotion and education of pregnant women and their babies.
To recognise, review and report patient’s/client’s condition and any changes to it to senior members of staff within the multidisciplinary team.
To be professionally accountable for own actions during working shift.
To ensure that the practice complies with Data Protection/ Confidentiality/ Caldicott principles in addition to Statutory and Regulatory guidelines of the NMC and local standards for record keeping.
To undertake and be responsible for the safe administration of vaccines prescribed/via PGD this includes pertussis, flu vaccines, and BCG vaccines.
To be responsible for ordering and the safe storage of vaccines.
To have read only access to the CHIS system, to confirm babies who are SCID negative and eligible for the BCG vaccine.
