Job overview
The Oral Surgery Department at SWBH NHS Trust is looking to recruit a receptionist. The position will be based in the Oral Surgery Department situated within the Birmingham Treatment Centre.
Our clerical team is essential to the efficient running of the department; providing support to the clinical staff by managing the busy reception desk, booking and changing appointments, taking and relaying urgent messages from patients, as well as carrying out a variety of other clerical duties such as filing, photocopying, scanning and arranging ambulance pick-ups for patients and collection of specimens.
We are therefore looking for someone with excellent communication and organisational skills, ideally with experience of working in a clerical role within the medical field. Experience of working in a reception role, but not essential.
Main duties of the job
- To work on reception, greet and assist patients and log their arrival
- To receive calls from patients and medical staff and assist them with their queries
- To use multiple hospital systems to book appointments and check for referrals.
- Arrange new appointments and send letters via Envoy.
- To undertake filing of correspondence and reports as required within the department.
- To receive biopsy samples from clinical staff and ensure safe collection.
- To arrive/discharge patients attending for minor surgery, ensuring RTT pathway is correct.
- Keep line-manager informed of all day-to-day occurrences that affect the functioning of the department.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Meet and greet patients as they arrive within the department. Make sure all patients have confirmed their attendance at the book-in kiosks and if not, arrive manually on IPM. Arrive and discharge patients attending for minor surgery ensuring RTT pathway is updated and correct.
